City Manager Responds to Call for Resignation

Council member Kelly Stewart called for Kachmar to step down following an altercation with a citizen.

Following a press conference Friday in which Johns Creek City Council member Kelly Stewart called for City Manager John Kachmar's resignation following an altercation with a citizen, Kachmar has released the following statement:

“I was there on Monday evening. I know exactly what happened.  And I know what’s happening now. It’s called base politics. The mayor is lashing out through his supporters against city staff who have given testimony in the now four-month long investigation of the Mayor.

"I’m one of those people, so I’m not surprised that his supporters are asking for my resignation. Its politics at its worse and I trust the people of Johns Creek to see it for what it is….an act of a desperate man.”

The altercation occurred Monday night following a city council meeting. Gerald J. Bush filed a police report stating that Kachmar was "trying to provoke him into a physical altercation." Kachmar refuted the charges, saying there was no assault, just name calling. He said that Bush's actions were politically motivated, calling Bush a supporter of Mayor Mike Bodker, who is being investigated by the City Council over allegations that Bodker has violated ethics rules while in office.

The Johns Creek Police Department is investigating the altercation.
