Older Mixed Beagle 'Pookie' Hopeful for Home

Sometimes at the Atlanta Humane Society, we see a dog who is a little older that somehow, through no fault of their own, finds their way to our shelter. Pookie is one of these dogs. Unfortunately after seven years, she has found herself looking for her permanent home. The staff and volunteers at the Atlanta Humane Society would like nothing more than to help her find one. Pookie is a seven year old, female, beagle mix who is the sweetest little dog you will ever meet. She is gentle and friendly, always willing to happily flop down next to you requesting petting and snuggle time. At 27 pounds, Pookie has a little extra weight around the middle so she would love someone committed to taking her for daily walks or light jogs. She loves her …

Atlanta Humane Society Celebrates One Year at North Fulton Campus

AHS has found homes for over 3,000 dogs and cats.

The Atlanta Humane Society celebrates the first anniversary of its North Fulton Campus on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. AHS officially opened the Alpharetta campus in December 2011 and has since found homes for some 3,000 dogs and cats. At its first birthday party, AHS will celebrate those adoptions along with the impact the new shelter has had on the North Fulton community. Pet adoptions at the Mansell Road facility will be available until 6 p.m. Saturday. Throughout the day, visitors to AHS will enjoy light refreshments and activities for children. There will be several prizes for a free raffle up for grabs, including a LCD TV from Best Buy, gift baskets from Paul Mitchell and Starbucks, a $50 gift card from Baker’s Man, and hotel stays …

Be Kind to Animals Week inspires community involvement for children and teenagers.

Be Kind to Animals Week, established in 1915 by Dr. William O. Stillman, leader of American Humane Society at that time, was created to help animals and publicize the success of humane societies. Even Shelter Dogs and Cats Want to Move to North Fulton

The public is invited to visit for the grand opening and open house of the Atlanta Humane Society's Mansell Campus on Saturday, Dec. 3.

More than 300 dogs and cats were being moved from Midtown to Alpharetta The Mansell Campus of the Atlanta Humane Society holds its grand opening on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m., a chance for the public to check out the facility up close as the ribbon is cut for the animal shelter. The open house will run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The shelter is at 1565 Mansell Rd, Alpharetta. Call the Atlanta Humane Society at 404-875-5331.
