Wilson Creek Kids Play in the Dirt

Members of the Wilson Creek Elementary School student council celebrated Earth Day on April 22 by volunteering for “Hands On Wilson Creek” activities. Students stayed after school to help beautify the campus by picking up trash, pulling weeds, and planting flowers.

Wilson Creek Students Are Off to See the Wizard

Fourth- and fifth-grade studentsin the Chorus Club at Wilson Creek Elementary School in Johns Creek recently performed the musical “The Wizard of Oz” on March 19 and 20 to sold-out audiences. The musical featured some 100 students who practiced for nearly three months in preparation for the show. Students also performed portions of the musical during the school’s Artist Day activities on March 22. Chorus Club is an after-school activity at Wilson Creek, comprised of 110 students. The Chorus Club performance was directed by music teacher Leslie Morgan and fourth-grade teacher Alex Lorber, with assistance from music teacher Bronwyn Thomas.

Wilson Creek Receives Gift from the Heart

Emory Johns Creek Hospital donates AED to elementary school.

Emory Johns Creek Hospital recently donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to Wilson Creek Elementary School. An AED is a portable defibrillator designed to be used by persons without substantial medical training who are responding to a cardiac emergency. Emory Johns Creek Hospital is a Wilson Creek business partner.  Wilson Creek Principal Andrea Cushing thanked Emory Johns Creek Hospital CEO Craig McCoy and Director of Community Relations Bev Miller for their contribution to the school’s safety and welfare.

Wilson Creek Honors Teacher, Employee of Year

Wilson Creek Elementary School in Johns Creek recently honored Sara White as the school's Teacher Representative of the Year and Alicia Harrington as the School Professional of the Year. White, a third-grade teacher, was one of two teachers nominated by staff for the award. White has 13 years of experience as a teacher. Harrington, a kindergarten instructional paraprofessional, has worked in education for 12 years.

Wilson Creek Elementary Goes RAAD

School celebrates Read Across America Day.

Wilson Creek Elementary in Johns Creek celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Friday with “Read Across America Day” (RAAD) activities. The school day began with the administrative team on the roof of the school reading a happy birthday poem for Dr. Seuss. Throughout the day, pajama-wearing students also enjoyed celebrity read-alouds; D.E.A.R. time (Drop Everything and Read!); a “one fish, two fish” candy estimation contest; Dr. Seuss trivia contests; and special cafeteria treats including birthday cake during lunch and green eggs and ham for breakfast.

Wilson Creek Elementary Goes to the Dogs

On Feb. 5, students and staff at Wilson Creek Elementary joined together for "Teamwork Tuesday" during National School Counseling Week. The Wilson Creek school community donated supplies to support animals in need through Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Each student and staff member was challenged to bring in one item that would make a difference in animals' lives. Hundreds of items were donated, including leashes, collars and grooming supplies.

Wilson Creek Students are Thankful

Wilson Creek Elementary students in Debra Fujimoto’s kindergarten class have enjoyed learning about the significance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Students have learned why and how we celebrate Thanksgiving and how President Lincoln turned it into an official holiday. They also studied the pilgrims and their friend Squanto, who helped them learn how to survive in the New World.  On Friday, Nov. 16, students performed a Thanksgiving musical for their parents before enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving feast of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie in the cafeteria.

Wilson Creek Student Council Honors Veterans

In honor of Veterans Day, Wilson Creek Elementary's Student Council sponsored a luncheon for the school’s family members and friends who are veterans. Wilson Creek provided lunch to more than 25 men and women who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. Student Council members created a special hallway exhibit to honor veterans, displaying veterans’ and family members’ names and military branch. Students also created “thank you” cards for each of the veterans.

Wilson Creek Students Win Fire Safety Awards

Three Wilson Creek Elementary students were honored at the 20th annual Fire Safety Banquet in Forsyth recently. Olivia Yang, Cindy Qiu and Sonal Churiwal were recently named as winners in a statewide art competition. As part of Fire Prevention Week, the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commission and the Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association sponsored a fire safety tips calendar and poster contest. The contest is an opportunity for Georgia students in grades K through 5 to learn about and contribute to fire safety through an art project. The posters had to focus on fire prevention in the home and reflect this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “HAVE 2 WAYS OUT!” Wilson Creek student Olivia Yang won first place for the 4th Grade Fire Safety …

Bus Driver Appreciation at Wilson Creek

Wilson Creek Elementary School in Johns Creek recently showed its appreciation for its hard-working bus drivers. On Friday, the drivers enjoyed an early morning treat of bagels, beverages and other goodies after completing their morning bus runs. Students also created thank you cards and hand-drawn pictures that were distributed to bus drivers.
