Northview High School’s Junior Titans wrestling program has undergone massive changes, including a limitation to 50 students. Northview Wrestling Program Director Bob Biondich has overseen both the high-school wrestling program and Junior Titans, whose participants are ages 6-14, for the last five years. During this time, he has seen two broad categories of youth — those who abandon sports in favor of sedentary activities and are not athletic and single-sport specialists who play year-round and suffer injuries due to overuse of particular muscles. As part of National Suicide Prevention Month, the city of Johns Creek is initiating a suicide prevention campaign to educate public safety personnel and the public about the warning signs of suicide and where to go for help. The campaign includes citywide distribution of posters and flyers displaying the suicide prevention hotline (1-800-273-TALK) and warning signs, training police and firefighters to better recognize signs of potential suicide, and a series of four public awareness meetings at Johns Creek area high schools Oct. 1-4. “Suicide is one of the major social issues facing Johns Creek today,” said City Manager John Kachmar. “It claims people from all demographic groups, and it is devastating to those who are left behind. The Will to Live Foundation will continue its mission of preventing suicide and spreading friendship among teens with its annual "WillStock" music festival on Sept. 8 at Northview High School. Johns Creek residents John and Susie Trautwein formed the non-profit Will To Live Foundation to help spread awareness of suicide after their son, Will Trautwein, a ninth-grader at Northview High, took his own life in October 2010. The festival will feature 17 kid bands. "Of all the wonderful things the Will To Live Foundation participates in, none really compare with WillStock," said John Trautwein on the foundation's website."
