The final section of Westside Parkway from Old Milton to Webb Bridge had its ceremonial parade of cars.
Alpharetta and North Fulton Community Improvement District officials turned Westside Parkway into a parking lot this afternoon, but it was only a prelude to the road's long-awaited opening an hour or so later. "This is the road that wouldn't be built but got built anyway," said Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle. Belle Isle said in 2009 when the ribbon was cut for the southern section of Westside, connecting with Mansell Road, the thought was that in just a few months they'd all be back together to open this section. "We had a foreclosure here, we had a bankruptcy here. We had a dispute among the property owners," the mayor said. Fast Facts About Westside Parkway Moses Brown, vice chairman of the North Fulton CID said the group's goal is to…

The first "official" use of the roadway after a ribbon cutting will be a parade of vehicles past the ceremony area from the southern end north to Webb Bridge Road.
Finally. Westside Parkway's last section will open on Monday, April 23, after a 3 p.m. ribbon-cutting. "We think this is going to be a big impact to trafifc on Highway 9 and on Haynes Bridge Road," said Brandon Beach, president of the Greatern North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and executive director of the North Fulton Community Improvement District. Beach was speaking to the Windward Rotary Club on Monday, April 16 at its meeting in the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta. It took an extra four years as Prospect Park went bankrupt before it was even built, dragging the four-lane road into limbo with it. But once North American Properties bought the property, right of way for the part of Westside that was a piece of the Prospect Park land was …

C.W. Matthews, the contractor picked by Alpharetta, started work on Monday to complete the last section of the road.
Alpharetta officials say the last section of Westside Parkway should be opened in April as long as this weather holds. Mayor David Belle Isle said crews will work 24/7 in some cases on the section between Old Milton Parkway and Webb Bridge Road. The final connection of Westside provides an arterial corridor along GA and should provide some traffic relief. Pete Sewczwicz, director of Engineering/Public Works for Alpharetta, explained what C.W. Matthews will be doing as the road contractor. The City Council awarded the $1.65 million contract on March 19. For about 85 percent of the road, he said they will mill the existing asphalt to make sure there are no issues under the road after it was poured years ago by Thomas Enterprises …

Alpharetta City Council awarded a $1.65 million bid to finish the roadway, with most of the funds coming from the GA Department of Transportation.
Sometime in June–or maybe even in late April, if the weather and utilitt companies cooperate–motorists will be able to drive between Windward Parkway and Mansell Road on Westside Parkway without a detour. Alpharetta approved a $1.65 million bid to complete the final section between Webb Bridge Road and Old Milton Parkway. Once the contract is accepted and signed by the winning bidder, CW Matthews, "in 30 days we will have the road open for traffic," said Pete Sewczwicz, director of Engineering and Public Works, in his presentation to City Council at Alpharetta City Hall Monday night, March 19. City Council members were hoping for as early as late April for an opening. The work could begin as soon as the end of this week, but utility …

The city might not wait to complete sidewalks or install streetlights so the roadway can open to traffic sooner.
Alpharetta might hold a special meeting to make sure the last phase of Westside Parkway opens more quickly. Engineering/Public Works Director Pete Sewcwicz told City Council that they are looking to open the road as soon as possible. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has allocated $849,898.50 to complete Westside Parkway between Old Milton Parkway and Webb Bridge Road. Sewcwicz said project documents might be available as soon as Thursday for potential bidders. Rather than wait for traffic signal mast arms to be delivered–which will take four months–he said they plan to install temporary signals until the mast arms can be delivered. The earliest construction might start would be April, Sewcwicz said. The project must be …

Well Mike, I would have completed the road a bit closer to the time when it was conceived. You remember right? Back in 1992.   more ›
