Elementary school welcomes Korean officials, teachers to classrooms.
As five Johns Creek schools embark on a teaching exchange program with Korea, State Bridge Crossing Elementary welcomed education officials to its school on Monday. The true spirit of giving during the holiday season was in full swing at State Bridge Crossing Elementary. Students in Mrs. Haggerty's 4th grade class and Ms. Waldorf's 2nd grade class chose to do service projects for their winter parties in December. Giant fleece blankets were made during the party by the students and parent volunteers. Thanks to generous donations from the families in both classes, the students also made dozens of toiletry bags and holiday cards and collected several bins of men's shoes for those in need. All donations were taken to the City of Refuge in downtown Atlanta.

The event was a huge success with 255 participants. A pre-race warmup was provided by North Point Jazzercise, and the Johns Creek police and fire departments sent representatives to provide additional excitement. Publix provided the post-race refreshments and Fleet Feet provided coupons to go in the race bags The event received great reviews from the families and the school says it is looking forward to watching it grow in size next year.

State Bridge Crossing Elementary School’s Talented and Gifted (TAG), 5th graders had the opportunity to visit DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) recently. The students have been learning about the forces of flight, including gravity, lift, drag and thrust as well as the early history of flight. At PDK they learned about several different types of aircraft and how to become a pilot. The students also had the opportunity to go into a twin engine turbo prop that seats eight people. In addition, Patrick Epps, the founder of PDK and son of Georgia’s first aviator Ben Epps, took a moment out of his busy schedule to greet the students and give them a short …
