Keith recently signed a letter of intent to play for the Eagles.

Chattahoochee High School’s Brandon Keith has signed a National Letter of Intent to play NAIA Division football at Reinhardt University in Waleska this fall. Keith is a three-year starter and varsity letterman in football. He was a special teams starter in his sophomore season and a proud member of that year’s undefeated (15-0) 2010 Georgia 4A State Championship football team. Keith was also awarded two CHS Special Teams Player of the Week awards that season. Titans Wrestling Program Goes Beyond the Mat

Focus is on athletics, mentorship and leadership.

Northview High School’s Junior Titans wrestling program has undergone massive changes, including a limitation to 50 students. Northview Wrestling Program Director Bob Biondich has overseen both the high-school wrestling program and Junior Titans, whose participants are ages 6-14, for the last five years. During this time, he has seen two broad categories of youth — those who abandon sports in favor of sedentary activities and are not athletic and single-sport specialists who play year-round and suffer injuries due to overuse of particular muscles. Although the Junior Titans have dramatically increased from 14 students and two coaches to over 100 students and nine coaches during his tenure, Biondich has simplified his goals. “I want 50 kids…

Johns Creek in just second year as varsity football program.

In just its second year as a varsity football program, Johns Creek High School is off to the state playoffs after its win against the Forsyth Central last night. Johns Creek had a memorable senior night with great performances on both sides of the ball.  Offensively, the team once again showed a balanced rushing and passing attack (342 total yards) led by junior quarterback Skye Overton (89 yards rushing/49 passing) and by sophomore running back Austin Pack (81 yards). Johns Creek scored in every quarter and topped off the evening with an explosive third quarter where the Gladiators scored 21 points.  Defensively, Johns Creek was dominant, allowing Forsyth Central to score only after the game was well in hand late in the third and fourth …

Pisgah Softball Ends Season in Final Four

Lady Patriots advances to final four before falling to George Walton.

The Mount Pisgah softball team saw its season end on Friday with a 2-0 loss to George Walton Academy in the GHSA playoffs. The Lady Patriots (25-6) advanced to the final four teams before being eliminated. “The trip to Columbus was a surreal experience.  It was an honor to be one of the last four teams standing. I felt like we played well for three out of the four games we played, especially with this being the first time any of these girls had made it this far,” said head coach Haley Brooks.  Pisgah opened the tournament with a 12-0 win over Brookstone, but were quickly sent to the losers’ bracket of the double elimination tournament after a 14-0 loss to Gordon Lee. The Patriots rebounded, scoring two runs in the seventh inning to knock …

Pisgah Boys Take Third in Cross Country Meet

Pisgah girls place seventh in region cross country meet.

[Story submitted by Mount Pisgah Christian School.] Competing in the toughest Region in Class A, the Mount Pisgah Christian School cross country teams had their work cut out for them to finish in the top four and qualify for the state meet. The boys put together a strong team performance to finish third overall in the Region 5A meet, beating out Providence, Pace and Holy Innocents. “The boys team turned in the performance of the season. It was a true team effort with incredible contributions from all top seven runners,” said head coach Susan Reilly. “The course was slow, but the boys’ placement couldn’t have been more perfect. There is a saying in cross country that you are only as good as your fifth runner, and Bo Stuart did more than was…

Gladiator Kicker Known for Focus on the Field

Johns Creek High's Kyle Fowler an interesting dichotomy.

Chipper Jones likely never has forgotten his bat, Roger Federer never his racquet. But Kyle Fowler has forgotten his shoes. The Johns Creek High field goal kicker, admired for extraordinary focus when kicking, is lovingly known for absent-mindedness otherwise. When boarding buses for Game 5 at Creekview, kicking coach Lockie Brown asked Fowler if he had his cleats. The junior knitted his brow, chuckled, then raced back to the locker room for ones as unique as his position. "To be such an absent-minded professor, but to be able to have the skills he does is really a contrast," Brown said. "How can a kicker forget his shoes? A kicker's shoes are his tools." Those who admire Fowler love his quirkiness. "A very competitive goofball," was coach…
