Pisgah's Playoff Run Ends

Patriots were competing in GHSA state hoops championship for first time.

The Mount Pisgah Christian School boys basketball team lost to No. 10 Aquinas 60-56 on Wednesday night, ending the Patriots' playoff run. Rondy Brownlee and Quarte Sapp each scored 10 points to lead Pisgah (20-10). Brain Ginty, Joseph Marco and Ben Miller each scored 8 points.  The game was close throughout, with the score tied at 12 at the end of the first quarter. Marco opened the scoring in the second quarter with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer to give the Patriots a five-point lead. Aquinas then went on a 6-0 run, but threes by Marco and Ben Miller put Pisgah back in the lead. Pisgah to Host State Playoff Game

Patriots set to host W.D. Mohammed in playoffs.

The Mount Pisgah Christian School boys’ basketball team will host W.D. Mohammed on Saturday night in the opening round of the GHSA playoffs. The Patriots (19-9) are the top seed from Region 5, while the Caliphs (18-8) are the No. 4 seed from Region 9. Game time is 7 p.m. for the game, which will be played in the Drummond Center, located on Pisgah’s East Campus. “Gritty is the one work I would use to describe how the team is playing right now,” said first year head coach Marvin Latham. “We are doing what we have to do to win the ball game, which is a good thing.” Pisgah tuned up for the state tournament by winning the Region 5-A championship last weekend. The Patriots defeated Providence 64-54 in double overtime in the championship game. …

Patriots Capture Region 5-A Title

Pisgah basketball wins Region 5-A title after two OTs.

It took two overtimes, but the Mount Pisgah boy’s basketball team finally captured the Region 5-A championship with a 64-54 win over Providence on Saturday night. The Patriots had already locked up their first appearance in the GHSA playoffs earlier in the week, but now will hold a No. 1 seed and host a home game on Saturday, Feb. 25. Freshman Aaron Winchester led the way for the Pisgah scoring 15 points against Providence. Sophomore John Towne scored 13 points, while senior Kyle Sloter added 12 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Rondy Brownlee finished with nine points. The Patriots led early taking a 23-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. Pisgah Wins Basketball Holiday Classic

Patriots ready for sub-region play with tournament championship.

The Mount Pisgah Christian School boy’s basketball team warmed up for the opening of the sub-region schedule over the break by winning the Blue Ridge Division at the Carolina Day School Basketball Holiday Classic. The Patriots (10-1) won all three games in the tournament, defeating host Carolina Day School 71-54; Wayne Country Day School 64-57; and Freedom Christian Academy 83-75 in the championship. Kyle Sloter was named the tournament MVP after averaging 21.3 points and eight rebounds per game. The senior scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds against Freedom Christian. Fellow seniors Brian Ginty (eight points, 4.3 rebounds and three assists per game) and Joseph Marco (9.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game) were also named …
