Northview, Chattahoochee Students Nominated for Theater Awards

Performers recognized for roles in 'How to Succeed in Business,' 'Beauty & the Beast.'

Northview and Chattahoochee high schools in Johns Creek have each garnered a nomination in the 2013 Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards, also known as the Shuler Hensley Awards, which honor musical theater excellence in high schools. Chattahoochee's Hank Goldmon has been nominated for Featured Performance for his role as Lumiere in "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," while Northview's Chloe Campbell is nominated for Supporting Actress Honorable Mention for her role as Smitty in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." The winners will be announced during a Tony Awards-style ceremony Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are $16 plus fees.

'Twitter Threat' at Northview Results in Heightened Police Presence

A threat to Northview High via Twitter has resulted in higher police presence at the Johns Creek school. "Yesterday (Monday) morning a parent reported to the school that they learned of a threat posted on Twitter," said Fulton Schools spokesperson Susan Hale. "The post was immediately reported to our district’s Police Department and they’ve been working with the Johns Creek Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to identify the person who posted it. Today, as a precaution, we will have an additional police presence at the school." Although it very well may be a teenage hoax(I agree with previous comment-who is raising these kids??) we don't know that it is for sure. In light of recent events in Colorado, Conneticut, and now Boston, I can't/won't take any chances with my children's safety. Northview Student Wins National Achievement Scholarship

Justin O. Bryant has each won $2,500 scholarship.

A Northview High School student is among five throughout the county who were recently named winners in the 49th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition for African-American high school students. Justin O. Bryant won a $2,500 cash prize - or an equivalent scholarship - from one of the 34 corporations underwriting the National Merit program. All of the qualifying students were identified through exceptionally high scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which they took as juniors. They also must have a record of high academic performance, be endorsed and recommended by their school principal and have earned SAT scores that confirm their earlier qualifying test performance. Northview Mock Trial Places Second at State

Team makes it to state championship for first time in school's history.

Northview High School's Mock Trial Team has reason to celebrate. It recently made it to the State Championship for the first time in the school's history, placing second in Georgia. The following students earned awards:  In addition to awards given by the judges, teams at state can give an award to their favorite performer. The following Northview students earned awards as outstanding performers from other teams:  Student attorneys on the team include Erin Smith, Shreya Ganeshan, Harris Gu, Alisha Goel, Patrick Wu and Hayden Cox. Student actors who portrayed witnesses include Madeline Evans, Aya Badr, Sehar Ali, Bryant Anthony, Harsha Sridhar and Amber Scales. Northview Student Urges No Texting While Driving

Darius Chinoy produces video with 'Semester of Service' grant.

The only student in the United States to receive the "Semester of Service with Youth Service of America" grant (usually given to teachers), Northview sophomore Darius Chinoy recently produced a video urging fellow teens not to text and drive. (See the video that Darius produced with this friends accompanying this article.) Darius plays trombone in the marching band and represented his school in the District Honor Jazz Band. He also runs varsity track and is working on his Eagle Scout project, where he is making an outdoor lunch area for the teachers of Northview High School.

On March 21-24, Northview High School brings back the swinging sixties with its presentation of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical comedy about an ambitious young window-washer named J. Pierrepont Finch who uses a trusty how-to guide to rocket to the top of the corporate ladder. Northview Fencing Ends Season at Championship

Northview High School's Titans Fencing concluded a successful 2012-13 season in the Georgia High School Fencing League. In Saturday’s team tournament at Pope High School, Northview men and women’s teams both brought home trophies.  Northview’s men’s team of Dave Williams (Captain), Harold Liu, Pedrum Khoshlesan and Matthew Do secured a berth in the championship round by defeating Johns Creek High School by one touch, 43-42.     In the hard-fought championship bout, a strong Pope High School men’s team of Jake Wachtel (Captain), Luben Jelezarov, Ian Lenthart and Nick Shook beat the resilient Northview squad 45-37 to win the championship trophy.  Northview men finished second. Eat at Firehouse for a Great Cause

Restaurant will donate 10 percent of proceeds on Monday to Junior Civitans.

If you haven't tried out the new Firehouse Subs on McGinnis Ferry yet, Monday would be a great day to do so. The new Junior Civitan Club at Northview High School is hosting its first fundraising activity when it partners with Firehouse, which will donate 10 percent of its proceeds Monday from 6 p.m. to close. The club will use the money to support its team in the Polar Plunge, which benefits the Georgia Special Olympics. To help the club out, present the flyer accompanying this article or simply tell the cashier, and the Junior Civitans will receive 10 percent of the sale.
