Fourteen Pisgah Patriots named to All-Region 6-A South football squad.

The Mount Pisgah football team had a Region high 14 players named to the All-Region 6-A South squad this week. They placed four players on the first and second teams, while six more were named Honorable Mention. First teamers included seniors Flint Geier (offensive line), Dylan Dixon (defensive line), Ryan Felice (defensive back) and sophomore Shingy Chigwere (defensive line). The offense was well represented on the second team with quarterback Aaron Winchester, running back Rondy Brownlee and wide receiver Oz Dixon. Jacob Delk was also named to the second team as a defensive back and punter. Mount Pisgah varsity softball player Morgan Walters was named the GHSA Class A Player of the Year. The junior third baseman led the Patriots in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (1.075), on base percentage (.598), walks (19), home runs (11), RBIs (41) and runs (42). Walters has committed to the University of Missouri. In addition to Walters the Patriots also had four other players named to the GHSA Class A All-State team on Friday. Madison Wickline, Madison Claytor and Courtney Condon were all named First Team All-State, while Nicole Peters was named third team. In their fourth year as "Sprinkle and Twinkle" the elves, Macy Williams and Cissy Jamieson, students at Mount Pisgah Christian School, continue to delight North Fulton children and raise money for worthwhile causes. The project started as a way to raise money for school mission trips and college funds and has now evolved into an area holiday tradition. Visiting more than 60 area families, the elves surprise children with songs, dance and tales from the North Pole. Sprinkle and Twinkle do not charge for their visits, but pleased parents often make donations that have resulted in check and elf doll presentations to the Make-A-Wish foundation and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta hospitals. Six Mount Pisgah senior student-athletes gathered on Wednesday to sign their college scholarship offers. The Mount Pisgah varsity football team will make its first-ever appearance in the GHSA playoffs this season after finishing No. 16 in the Class A Private School Power Rankings. The Patriots (6-4) edge out Whitefield Academy for the last spot. "It's great! It's great for the kids, great for the school and great for the community. It's just a great feeling," Head Coach Doug Dixon said shortly after the playoff bracket was finalized. "We get to start the second season right now." The Mount Pisgah varsity football team lost to Darlington 31-14 on Friday night. Despite the loss, the Patriots still have a chance to qualify for the GHSA playoffs for the first time in school history. Pisgah entered the game ranked No. 15 in the Class A Private School rankings. Losses by No. 16 Whitefield Academy and No. 18 Christian Heritage, may keep the Patriots in the playoffs. Against Darlington, Pisgah trailed early as Darlington scored on their first two possessions and held a 17-0 lead at halftime. The Mount Pisgah boys and girls cross country teams both finished fourth on Saturday in the GHSA Class A Private School Championships. This was the best finish for both teams since the varsity programs began in 2004. Senior Katie Strawinski led the girls finishing in eighth place overall with a time of 20:12. Junior Shane Sullivan paced the boy's squad, finishing 10th overall with a time of 16:46. “Coach [Anthony] Keeton and I couldn't have asked more of either team today,” said head coach Susan Reilly after the race. “Both our boys and girls knew what a privilege it was to be compared to the other successful cross country programs in Class A. The Mount Pisgah varsity football team rolled up 311 yards of rushing offense on Friday night as they dominated Fellowship 55-0. The win keeps the Patriots (6-3) alive in the chase for a playoff spot. They will close the regular season on Friday when they travel to Darlington in a Region 6-A crossover game. Aaron Winchester led the offense with 78 yards rushing and two touchdowns on only three carries. The sophomore quarterback was also 4-of-6 passing for 66 yards and another touchdown. Austin Harper picked up 71 yards and two touchdowns of his own on four carries. Rondy Brownlee also found the end zone twice, carrying the ball 11 times for 65 yards. The Mount Pisgah varsity softball team earned its first GHSA State Championship on Saturday with a 9-8 win over Prince Avenue Christian. In a back and forth game, the Lady Patriots (25-9) used clutch hitting to win the Class A Private School Championship. “It feels almost unreal,” said head coach Haley Brooks. “This has been a realistic goal for us for three seasons and to finally accomplish the mission is very satisfying.” Pisgah got on the board first scoring four runs in the top of the third inning. The Mount Pisgah cross country teams both posted second-place finishes at the 2012 Area 4/Region 6 Championships hosted by the Darlington School on Thursday. Both teams will now compete in the state meet on Saturday, November 3rd in Macon. The boys turned in an impressive performance, placing three runners in the top 10, but were edged by Darlington 51-55. The girls had a pair of runners in the top five, but also finished as a runner-up to the Tigers, 61-64. Shane Sullivan continued his excellent season by leading the way for the boy's squad finishing in 3rd place on the 5K course with a time of 17:13.
