Pisgah Tennis Wins Thrilling Area Final

Girls' tennis captures fourth consecutive area title.

The Mount Pisgah Christian School varsity girls tennis team won its fourth consecutive Area/Region championship on Wednesday with a dramatic 3-2 win over Darlington. “It was a Cinderella story that could have been a Hollywood script like "Rudy" or "Hoosiers." It was an honest-to-goodness feel-good story that still continues,” said Head Coach Ken Bomar.  The Lady Patriots got off to a strong start with Cissy Jamieson and Nicole Peters quickly disposing of Darlington's No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-4. Just minutes later Ines Tarrago won her No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-1. Then the tide began to shift. Blanca Tarrago was beaten at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1, and Sarah Chapdelaine lost at 3 singles by a score of 6-4, 6-1. It all came down to the 2 doubles …

Junior Patriot Football Registration is Now Open

Pisgah program open to all residents regardless of school.

Registration is now underway for Mount Pisgah’s Junior Patriot football program. The program is open to all in the community, regardless of what school you attend. Flag football teams are forming for boys who will be in first or second grade in the fall. Tackle football is available for boys in rising third through sixth grade.  The cost is $195 for flag football and $335 for tackle football. Registration will continue until all teams are full but these prices are good only through March 30. After March 30, prices go up to $230 for flag football and $360 for tackle football. Pisgah Places Two on All-Region Basketball Squads

Emily Raymer and Devin Peterson named All-Region.

Mount Pisgah Christian School varsity basketball players Emily Raymer and Devin Peterson were recently named All-Region 6-A. Raymer, a senior, was named first team All-Region. The Rollins College signee averaged 13.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 4.8 blocks and 1.6 steals per game. Peterson was named second team All-Region. The junior guard averaged 14.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.2 assists on the season.

Pisgah Makes Successful First Trip to GHSA Championships

Two Pisgah wrestlers place in Top 6 at GHSA Championships; team places 17th.

Making their first appearance at the GHSA Class A Wrestling Championships, Mount Pisgah Christian School wrestlers Mitchell Tanzy and James Laughlin both brought home medals, finishing 5th and 6th, respectively. Jack Kenyon also qualified for the event, but failed to place losing his first two matches in the 195 pound weight class. As a team the Patriots tallied 16 points to put them in 17th place out of the 25 Class A teams who sent wrestlers to the event. This is only the second year of the wrestling program for Head Coach Josh Merry and the Patriots. Tanzy took 5th place in the 113 pound weight class. He finished the tournament 2-2 with wins over Ben Morgan from Trion and Hunter Smith from Mt. Zion. The sophomore won both matches with …

Patriot Community Sports Holding Tryouts

Teams are forming for travel basketball.

Patriot Community Sports will be offering travel basketball teams this spring for basketball players who are committed to the game. Teams are forming for players in grades 4-9 that are serious about taking their game to the next level. These teams will practice twice a week beginning in late February. Each team will participate in at least four weekend tournaments between March and May. Tryouts for all teams will be on Sunday, Feb 10, and Sunday, Feb 17: A tryout fee of $15 is required at the time of tryouts. This fee covers both tryout dates; players are highly encouraged to attend both dates if possible. Tryouts will be held in the Drummond Center, which is on Mount Pisgah Christian School’s East Campus, located at 9875 Nesbit Ferry Road…

Registration Open for Patriot Community Sports

Spring offerings include wee-ball, soccer and travel basketball.

Registration is now open for Patriot Community Sports spring offerings, which include wee-ball, soccer and travel basketball. Wee-ball (similar to t-ball) is for children aged 3-5 and costs $115. The registration price increases to $135 after Feb. 11. Several soccer options are available including U4 to U6 teams for $140; U7 to U8 teams for $155; and a Premier Rec division which covers U9-U12 for $255. All registration prices go up $20 after Feb. 3. Finally, a spring travel basketball program will be available for students in grades 3-9.  Tryouts for these teams will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10, from 2-4 pm for 3rd-5th graders and 4-6 pm for 6th-9th graders. Pisgah Appoints New Head Football Coach

Mike Forester has served as the school's defensive coordinator for the last year.

Mount Pisgah Christian School announces the appointment of Mike Forester as new head football coach.  Coach Forester has served as the school’s defensive coordinator for the past year and has an impressive background in both coaching and secondary education. He holds a Masters of Divinity and an undergraduate degree in business administration. He has taught Bible, philosophy, psychology and geography and coached football at Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, Ala., for 19 years. Forester hails from a line of impressive educators and football players. His grandfather was a physics teacher and coach and his father played for the Green Bay Packers under legendary coach Vince Lombardi.  Doug Dixon, who has served as Pisgah’s head …

Pisgah’s Raymer Passes 1000 Mark in Points, Rebounds

Mount Pisgah Christian School's Emily Raymer recently passed the 1000 mark in career points and rebounds. The senior passed the 1000 point mark over the Christmas break against Davidson Day School. She grabbed her 1000th rebound on Saturday in a 22-19 win over Whitefield.  Raymer also finished the Whitefield game in style, completing her first triple double with 15 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocks. She now has 368 blocks for her career. For the season, Raymer is averaging 13.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game. She has signed to continue her basketball career at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.

Pisgah Places Two on All-State Squads

Patriot football has two players named First Team All-State.

Mount Pisgah football players Ryan Felice and Flint Geier were both named first team All-State for Class A this week. Felice, a senior defensive back, was named first team by the Georgia Sports Writers Association, while Geier, a senior offensive lineman, was named first team by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “These two young men are a major reason that we had such a successful season and qualified for the GHSA playoffs for the first time in school history,” said Pisgah Head Football Coach Doug Dixon. “In addition to being great on the field and as leaders, these two are outstanding students.
