Proponents and opponents of the state charter school amendment debate its merits.
Supporters and opponents of Georgia's charter school amendment, on the ballot this November, pleaded their cases at a voter info forum held at Johns Creek High School on Tuesday evening. Amendment 1, or HR 1162, would give a state-appointed commission authority to authorize and fund state charter schools if voters approve the legislation, or vote "Yes," on Nov. 6. Supporters of the amendment say it creates another avenue for charter start-ups; charter applicants have more flexibility on where to locate; and parents will have more local control. Johns Creek's delegate at Republican National Convention arrived in Tampa on Sunday.
Lynne Riley, Representative for Georgia House, District 50 arrived in Tampa, Fla., for the Republican National Convention on Sunday. The Johns Creek resident spent the first part of the day with other Georgia delegates at the Governor's luncheon at their hotel, the Grand Hyatt in Tampa. After lunch, she boarded a bus and rode into downtown Tampa. Walking to the Tampa Bay Times Forum, many members in her group stopped to pose for photos outside the convention. The highlight of the trip so far for Riley was meeting Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. Riley and the other Georgia delegates had dinner last night at Tampa's well known Columbia Restaurant in historic Ybor City. "It was fantastic" she said. "The scallops were worth this trip …

Incumbent Lynne Riley will run unopposed for State House; Albers to face Democrat for State Senate.
With election qualifying having ended on Friday, it's clear that Lynne Riley-R, will run unopposed for the State House, while David Shafer-R will run unopposed for State Senate. Meanwhile, a Democrat threw his hat into the ring for the state Senate District 56 seat, guaranteeing a challenge for the Republican nominee. With only the incumbent, John Albers, having qualified for the Republican primary, he appears headed for a general election battle with Akhtar Sadiq, a Democrat from Roswell. In the state House, Johns Creek is represented by Riley, District 50, a Johns Creek resident.
