Leadership Johns Creek Wants You

Program accepting nominations for 2014 class.

Interested in learning about all aspects of life in Johns Creek — from government and business to non-profits and recreation — all the while making friends and contacts with an engaged and energized group of leaders? Leadership Johns Creek is seeking nominations for the Class of 2014. The eight-month program will begin in September with some 30 members. An information session will be held Wednesday, 5:30 p.m., at Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce offices, 10475 Medlock Bridge Road, to help those interested learn more about the program. The offices are located on the second floor, Building 100, in the Ivy Falls center at the corner of Medlock and Wilson Road. Autrey Mill Receives Gift of Furniture

Aaron's, Leadership Johns Creek make donation to nature center.

Members of Leadership Johns Creek (“LJC”) joined executives from Aaron’s and Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Director Ben Team last Friday to accept a generous donation of furniture for the Welcome Center.  The center is now equipped with a new welcome desk, along with new desks, bookcases, filing drawers, and chairs for the director’s office.   This Leadership Johns Creek team is also building and installing new donation bins for the area’s local Foster Care program. Leadership Johns Creek Needs Input on Art Project

Members of the Leadership Johns Creek Class of 2013 have undertaken the project of creating and proposing a Public Art Master Plan to the mayor and city council for Johns Creek, and now they want to hear from residents.  The group will host two public forums that will begin the discussion of public art in the city: • Wednesday, Jan. 30, 6-7:30 p.m. Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Physicians Plaza Room 109 • Thursday, Jan. 31, 6-7:30 p.m. Newtown Park Community Center   An online survey can be completed at http://www.leadershipjohnscreek.com/public-art-project/.

Johns Creek Veterans Group Plans Memorial Grounds

Group partnering with Leadership Johns Creek in effort.

The Johns Creek Veterans Association (JCVA) is embarking on a plan to build a meditative memorial to veterans in a quiet, unused portion of Newtown Park. The association will need to raise $150,000 to start the project, but has a final goal of $300,000 to cover all the features it hopes to add. No tax dollars are planned for the memorial. The JCVA is partnering with Leadership Johns Creek in its fundraising and marketing effort. The City Council on Jan. 14 gave the Veterans Association verbal permission to proceed. Called the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk at Newtown Park, the memorial would offer a contemplative place for people to pause and remember the men and women who served their country, said Johns Creek Veterans Association …

Leadership Johns Creek Accepting Nominations

Class of 2014 will begin in September.

Leadership Johns Creek (LJC) is officially accepting nominations for its Class of 2014. The eight-month program is scheduled to begin in September with an anticipated 30-member class representing people from government, business, education and non profits in the Johns Creek area.  Class selection is by nomination. Leadership Johns Creek Works on Public Art Plan

Class of 2012 creating master plan, seeking public comment.

In hopes of enriching the City of Johns Creek through public art, a 2013 Leadership Johns Creek team is developing a master plan for public statuary, sculpture and other media in the city. “Our public art plan creation is based on a collaborative approach between the city residents, arts community, not-for-profit agencies, stakeholders, and the City of Johns Creek,” said Chris Pullaro of the Leadership group spear-heading the project. “We believe that the purpose of art lies in inspiring powerful personal experiences as well as fostering social progress.” The master plan will include a map of potential art locations, guidelines for public art, a funding strategy, and a list of corporate and non-profit agencies that might contribute to the …

Leadership Johns Creek Celebrates Non-Profits

Leadership Johns Creek (LJC) hosted a “Non-Profit Expo” Nov. 8, as LJC class members met with local non-profits to learn more about the organizations, form relationships and advocate for non-profits in the community.  Twenty non-profit organizations from Johns Creek and North Fulton participated in the expo, part of LJC’s Non-Profit Program class day. Volunteers Honored at Annual Mayor's Ball

Event benefits Johns Creek Foundation, which works to support non-profits.

Local residents danced to the beat of the band Synergy and helped raise funds for the Johns Creek Foundation at the Mayor’s Ball held Oct. 19 at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker began his speech by sharing a secret about serving as mayor with the audience. “A lot of time you get your speeches two minutes before you make them,” he said. “I’ve had this one for five.” He recognized fellow members of the Johns Creek City Council, State Rep. Lynne Riley, State Sen. David Shafer, Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann, city employees and members of the Johns Creek Foundation. Leadership Johns Creek 2012 Class Graduates

Class project enhanced fitness trail in Technology Park.

Leadership Johns Creek (LJC) completed its third year by graduating 27 class members.  LJC is designed to develop leadership talent in individuals representing the Johns Creek community through a structured series of learning experiences. People from all types of business, civic, volunteer and religious organizations are invited to participate. The 10-month program began in September with a kick-off retreat at the Legacy Lodge on Lake Lanier Islands followed by eight monthly one-day sessions. In addition to leadership training and development, class participants gained insight into business, government, community quality of life, volunteer service and local history. Leadership Johns Creek Revamps Fitness Trail

Ribbon-cutting scheduled for June 8.

Leadership Johns Creek's Class of 2012 will host a ribbon-cutting to unveil its class project Friday, June 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trail 7 in Johns Creek Technology Park. Various city and community leaders will be in attendance, and the public is invited to attend and view all of the trail enhancements and enjoy a hot dog lunch.  The ribbon-cutting is the culmination of a yearlong project by LJC Class of 2012, which includes 28 business and community leaders of Johns Creek.
