Johns Creek Man Charged With Faking Own Kidnapping

Aftab Aslam allegedly faked his kidnapping because he didn't want to tell his parents he was flunking a college course.

A Johns Creek man who was initially reporting missing has been charged with faking his own kidnapping.  Aftab Aslam, 19, on Thursday was arrested and charged charged with one misdemeanor count of false report of a crime, three felony counts of false statements, three felony counts of tampering with evidence and three felony counts of terroristic threats.  He's currently in custody at the Fulton County Jail with no bond. Johns Creek Police say Aslam was originally reported missing around 10 a.m. April 27, but returned home unharmed on May 5. He told investigators he left on his own accord because he did not want to tell his parents he was failing an English course for a second time at Georgia Gwinnett College, according to a press release …

Missing Johns Creek Man Returns Home

Aftab Aslam, reported to be kidnapped, told investigators he left on his own.

A Johns Creek man originally reported to be kidnapped April 27 returned to his Morton Crossing home unharmed Sunday evening around 9. Aftab Aslam told investigators he left on his own. Aslam was reported missing about 10 a.m. on April 27 from his parents’ home. They received an early morning text saying the 19-year-old was kidnapped. Investigators from Johns Creek, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation discovered that Aslam had bought the cell phone that sent the text, and that no one else had handled the phone. Aslam told police he left home for personal reasons. Investigators are verifying his account, and charges have not been filed yet.

Missing Man: Police Seek Missing Johns Creek 19-Year-Old

First reported as a kidnapping, Johns Creek police believe Aftab Aslam sent the text message claiming he was kidnapped.

Three law enforcement agencies have been searching for a 19-year-old Johns Creek man since last Saturday; now they're asking for help from the public in finding him. Aftab M. Aslam, who is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 165 pounds and has medium-length black hair, was first reported as being kidnapped on April 27 at 10 a.m. Johns Creek Police responded to his Morton Crossing address, where officers were told he was missing from his home. "Aslam’s family reported that they had received a phone text stating that he had been kidnapped," a news release from the city said. Blotter: Silver Stolen From Home; Items Shoplifted from Ross, Walgreen's

The following information was supplied by the Johns Creek Police Department.

Burglary On April 11 a home on Hedgewick Trail was reported broken into. About $250 worth of loose silver was reported stolen. Shoplifting On April 9 a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with shoplifting at Walgreen's on Kimball Bridge Road. The manager told police that he watched the man remove the price codes from less expensive merchandise and move them to more expensive merchandise to make fraudulent purchases. On April 13 a store manager at Ross on Medlock Bridge Road told police that a man wearing a Jamaican wig cut off a key used to remove security tags from items from the cash register. Johns Creek High On Lockdown Friday Morning

Schools on alert while shooting suspect apprehended.

Update, Friday, April 12, 10:30 a.m.: According to Lt. Chris Byers with the Johns Creek Police Department, the school lockdown occurred after a shooting at a nearby residence, "just a couple of driveways down." A man and woman were in a vehicle in the driveway, got into an argument, and the woman shot the man in the upper body. The man was transported to the hospital, where he is thought to be in good condition. According to police, the shooting had nothing to do with Johns Creek High and State Bridge Elementary, which was also placed on lockdown. Wanted by the JCPD: Golf Players for Special Olympics Tourney

Registration for players, teams closes April 30.

Johns Creek Police have issued a Be-On-the-Lookout alert for golfers to play in the 5th annual golf tournament to benefit Special Olympics Georgia on May 6 at St. Ives Country Club in Johns Creek. Registration for individuals and teams ends April 30, and costs $125 per person or $500 for a team of four. Sponsorships are also available from $250 to $5,000. The tournament is part of the JCPD's annual participation in the non-profit's Law Enforcement Torch Run, which raises money to serve more than 23,000 Georgians with intellectual disabilities. Blotter: Men Damage Woman's Car After Offering to Fix It in Parking Lot

Criminal Damage to Property On March 28 a woman told police that she was at Kroger at 10945 State Bridge Road when she was approached by a man soliciting auto body work who then damaged her vehicle. According to the police report, the woman attempted to back her vehicle from its parking space when a dark green, early-to-mid-2009s Honda Pilot blocked her way. A Hispanic man in his early 30s, around 5'10" and 200 pounds, got out of the Pilot and approached her claiming to work for "Alpharetta Toyota." He offered her a quote to fix some minor, pre-existing damage to the front of her vehicle. The woman told the man she would be interested in a quote. Blotter: House Broken Into; Trailer Stolen From Church

Burglary On March 18 a home on Meuse Way was reported broken into while the residents were out of town. A back door was knocked in from the outside or possibly pried open, the police report stated. The deadbolt was still intact, but the frame was heavily damaged. An Apple laptop, vintage postage stamps, costume jewelry and possibly more items were stolen. Thefts On March 19 an employee at Hobby Lobby on State Bridge Road reported that someone stole four bales of cardboard valued at $464 from outside the store. On March 22 a utility trailer was stolen from the property of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church on Nesbit Ferry Road. The trailer is owned by the church, but is registered to Boy Scout Troop 629, which is sponsored by the church. …
