Legislation has formed to add more county commission seats in North Fulton. Do you think that would improve the balance of power?
In an effort to give more representation to North Fulton, legislation has been drawn to change the Fulton Commission district lines, which would increase the number of district seats while eliminating an at-large position. State Rep. Lynne Riley (R-Johns Creek) announced HB 171 earlier this year to reflect the changing population in the county. The bill would grant another district seat to North Fulton. Commissioner Liz Hausmann said she was in favor of legislation by Alpharetta, Milton and Johns Creek lawmakers that also would redraw commission district lines that would add another North Fulton member.
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted Wednesday to oppose temporarily capping the county's property tax millage rate, doubling the homestead exemption rate and giving North Fulton more representation on the commisson. Liz Hausmann is the only commissioner who solely represents North Fulton. Commissioner Tom Lowe's district extends from Roswell south until it's well inside the perimeter. Hausmann, the District 3 commissioner and Johns Creek resident, voted against the resolution. "I am in favor of the proposed new commission districts as it brings additional representation to North Fulton that is long overdue, and complies with the important concept of one man one vote," said Hausmann, the District 3 Commissioner. "I also think the…

The District 3 commissioner said the area has a severe shortage of blood, so she arranged for an American Red Cross bloodmobile to be outside of her office for the four-hour festival that accompanied her open house. "I want to raise awareness of the critical shortage of blood this summer," she said. Contact the Red Cross to help them, she said, because it's a critical need in the summer months.
