Johns Creek Groups Support Troops in Afghanistan

City, veterans group, Park Place and schools send care packages.

Johns Creek has united to support a Georgia-based artillery unit in Afghanistan by providing treats and hard-to-get basics. The City of Johns Creek, the Johns Creek Veterans Association, Park Place at Newtown School volunteers, Taylor Road Middle School and State Bridge Elementary School teamed up to provide care packages to the 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Alpha Battery in Kandahar Province. About 90 boxes were mailed to soldiers on March 29. Each soldier received an individual box of food, snacks and games. Boxes with field-grade socks and T-shirts were sent to platoon sergeants to distribute. "We all sincerely appreciate the heart-felt words and the generosity of support for all that you’ve given our troops," said 1SGT Alvin …

Bell Road Rezoning Case Draws Traffic Concerns

Some nearby residents concerned about proposed neighborhood's single entrance on Bell Road.

Plans to bring a 646-lot neighborhood on 224 acres on Bell Road near Boles has drawn the concern of some nearby residents, who say the proposed subdivision's single entrance would create a traffic hazard. Cory Holz, a homeowners association member in the nearby Foxdale subdivision, says her neighborhood is concerned about the amount of traffic that more than 600 homes would bring. "We're not opposed to the neighborhood" if the developers added another entrance in addition to the one on Bell, she said, explaining that the developer did bring up the possibility of the city building a connector between Bell and Technology Parkway, and adding an entrance there.  But, as the plan stands "we are all up in arms," she said. The applicant, Johns …

646 Homes! SIX HUNDRED FORTY SIX HOMES. That is ridiculous for Bell Rd. Johns Creek needs to require the developers to build the infrastructure (Roads & Schools) first before building the houses. The traffic and congestion need to be remedied to handle population growth.   more ›

'We Need to do More About Our Infrastructure,' Mayor Says

Mayor Mike Bodker delivers his State of the City address to sold-out audience.

As far as its budget goes, Johns Creek is "holding steady" financially, Mayor Mike Bodker told some 200 folks attending his State of the City address at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Friday. But, "if we don't work on economic development in this city, we're going to be in trouble," Bodker later added. He pointed to "Johns Creek Advantage," an economic development plan by the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce and the Johns Creek Economic Development Corporation. He urged business to support the program, which has a goal of hiring staff to promote the city, and would work to attract new businesses while providing services to existing business in the city. Bodker said the city's tax digest is too unbalanced, at 79 percent residential and 21 …

Mayor Talks Infrastructure & More at Town Hall

Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker holds 'Conversation With Community' at Perimeter Church.

Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker continued a December tradition this week with his "Conversation With the Community" town hall-style gathering at Perimeter Church. He told some 50 audience members that the city is in the early stages of looking into obtaining a loan to address neighborhood infrastructure needs. With the city "$38 million in the hole" as far as road resurfacing goes, a loan would help fix roads inside neighborhoods. All roadwork in the city so far is focused on main thoroughfares outside of subdivisions. Bodker also pointed to a recent study by the city that addressed the most dangerous intersections in Johns Creek. He said plans are already underway to address the top 9 most dangerous, and that a report has been sent to the …

Sharon Dickson joins city's legal team.

Sharon Dickson, a career prosecutor, was sworn in as the newest Assistant Solicitor for Johns Creek on Sept. 4. “We’re very happy to welcome Sharon Dickson to our legal team.
