Hooch Boys Tennis Team is State Runner-Up

The Chattahoochee High School boys' tennis team had a great season, beating McIntosh High School 3-1 in the 4-AAAA State Championship semifinals to move on to the State Championship match-up with Johns Creek High School May 12 at Clayton County International Park Tennis Center in Jonesboro. With a Johns Creek win 3-0, Hooch took 4-AAAA State Runners-Up, with a 12-3 regular season.

Hooch's Pressley Signs With West Georgia

Chattahoochee High School’s Mercedes Pressley has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of West Georgia, an NCAA Division II school, where she plans to major in biology with a minor in English literature. Pressley, a two-year letter winner, was instrumental in helping Chattahoochee go to the Final Four in 2011 and become regional winner that year. She played A5 Club Volleyball for three years and was highlighted as a Spotlight Player in 2011 in A5’s newsletter. During her 2010 season, she helped her club earn the Power Championship (Southern Region Championship games), become the Silver Medalist in a National Qualifier, and to win a bid for Junior Olympic Nations Level. Hooch Girls' Lacrosse Wins Area Championship

The Chattahoochee High School varsity girls lacrosse team defeated a determined Johns Creek High team 20 - 11 Thursday night to win the 3-AAAA-A Championship for the third straight year. The victory gave them the No. 1 seating in their bracket for the upcoming state playoffs and home field advantage. Hooch was led by recent NCAA signee Aubrey Bausum who scored 5 goals followed by Elicia Zarzour with 4 and Katie Trainer who had 3. Nine players scored for the Cougars who took 46 total shots against the Gladiator defense. Chattahoochee demonstrated a lot of team work as 12 of their 20 goals were assisted and attacker Savannah Coneys delivered four of them herself. Hooch Girls' Soccer Clinches Region Title

The Chattahoochee High School girls' varsity soccer team clinched the Region 7AAAA title Monday with a 3-0 win over Rome High School. This is the first region championship for the girls since 1997. A March 27 win over Lambert High School advanced the team to the region title game. The Lady Cougars faced the 7-0 Lambert team and were ready to avenge a double-overtime loss last year, which gave Lambert the title in 2011. This year the tables were turned with a 2-1 victory that ended the Longhorns longstanding streak of shutout wins. The Chattahoochee girls now head into the playoffs with a 9-1 record in region play where they will face Appalachee at home May 2.

Hooch's Aubrey Bausum Signs for Lacrosse

Chattahoochee High School’s Aubrey Bausum has accepted an academic scholarship to Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., where she will play NCAA Division III lacrosse for Coach Haley Marvine, a Chattahoochee graduate.  Bausum, a three-year letterman, is a varsity team captain, a Cougar Pride Award recipient and received the Athletic Academic Award from 2010-2012.  She was Offensive Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2010. Bausum helped lead the varsity team to the 2010 and 2011 Area Championships. In 2011, she was selected to play on the US Lacrosse National Team One representing Georgia.  When not playing lacrosse, Bausum coaches a Jr. Cougar U11 girls' lacrosse team and is a girls' lacrosse referee. Jr. Cougar Girls B'Ball Team Wins Tournament

The seventh grade Junior Girls' Basketball Team won the YBOA March Madness Tournament March 23-25. Held at Sprayberry High School, the Junior Cougars won with a record of 5-0.  Team members include, front row, from left: Jessie Gadson, Athena Morgan, Marissa Gore; and standing, from left, Sarah Kate Dhom, Isabella Tremble, Allie Bartlett, Delaney Burke, Anna McCarthy and Siena Gore.

Hooch LAX Players Make National Team

Chattahoochee High School varsity lacrosse players Kim Barco (from left), Katie Trainer and Elicia Zarzour have made the U.S. Lacrosse National Team, representing Georgia. Trainer gained a position on Team One, Barco is playing for Team Two and Zarzour is an alternate. Trainer and Barco will travel to Stony Brook University, Long Island, NY, to play May 25- 27, completing against teams from across the country.

Hooch Academic Team Named State Champs

The Chattahoochee High School Academic Team recently repeated as 4A Varsity State Champions. The team, comprised of seniors Sophia Chen, Jimmy Zhou, David Benas, juniors Alex Liu and Jiaxiu Zhong, and sophomores James Tang and Julia Tallant, finished with a perfect 10-0 record to claim first place at the state tournament. Pictured with the team is Elliot Rountree, Academic Team coach. In the championship game, the team defeated Marist in an exciting match by a final score of 280-270. This is the fourth Varsity State Title for the Hooch Quizbowl Team to go along with its three Junior Varsity State Titles, including the one it captured earlier this semester in February.

Hooch's Jake Kingree Signs With Samford

Chattahoochee High School’s Jake Kingree has signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division 1 football at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. The Samford Bulldogs compete in the Southern Conference (SOCON).   Kingree is a two-year varsity letterman in football and a senior captain for the team. He previously earned a State Championship ring as a member of Chattahoochee's undefeated 15-0 2010 State Championship AAAA football team, and was the starting middle linebacker and a tight end on the on the Cougar's 2011 Region Championship team. Kingree was named to the North Fulton/Forsyth Touchdown Club's Chamber Bowl All-Star team. He has received numerous football recognitions, including 2011 North Fulton Neighbor's Defensive Player…

Hooch's Cooney Named High School Teacher of the Year

Fulton County Schools name Teachers of the Year.

Kimberly Cooney, named High School Teacher of the Year by Fulton County Schools, confesses that she never wanted to be a teacher when growing up, and while in high school, she only volunteered as a summer school teaching assistant to get some résumé material for her college applications. But something happened that summer and the experience ended up changing her life. “I later realized that it wasn’t the teaching that was powerful; it was the learning,” Cooney said.
