Playoff Matchups Set for 'Hooch, Johns Creek

Both teams host first-round games in the Georgia High School Association playoffs.

It’s playoff time in Johns Creek next week, with Chattahoochee and Johns Creek high schools both hosting first-round games in the Class AAAA football tournament. Chattahoochee and Johns Creek finished 1-2 in Region 7-AAAA and will host teams from 8-AAAA. Chattahoochee, the defending state champ, has Habersham Central, 8-AAAA’s fourth-place team. The Cougars, which beat Rome 21-14 Friday to secure the 7-AAAA title, are 9-1 overall. Johns Creek, also 9-1, beat Forsyth Central 44-14 Friday and will play Flowery Branch in the first round. Flowery Branch is the No. 3 seed from 8-AAAA. You can find the complete football playoff brackets on the Georgia High School Association website.

Prediction: Cougars Will Claim Region Title

Chattahoochee will claim Region 7-AAAA title with win Friday; Northview needs a win over Centennial to make the playoffs. Count Johns Creek and Mount Pisgah among the winners, too.

Hooch Players Recognized

Chattahoochee High School's Jake Kingree wins Defensive Player of the Week.

More than 300 players, coaches, parents, fans and community leaders attended the October “Player of the Week” recognition dinner Oct. 17, hosted by the North Fulton-Forsyth Club at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta. Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week were selected from nominations made by coaches in the North Metro area and honored for their accomplishment on the gridiron. Fox5’s Buck Lanford emceed the “Athletic Director Appreciation Night” and former Atlanta Falcons Linebacker Buddy Curry was the special guest speaker. Chattahoochee High School's Jake Kingree won Defensive Player of the Week.
