Alpharetta City Council Approves City Center Design Plans

Work will begin on the site as early as February with the removal of underground gas storage tanks.

Alpharetta City Council took another big step toward development of the City Center site this week by approving a design development plan. Any major changes to the building or site plan designs after this point would send their architects and designers literally back to the drawing board and cost more money. The biggest snag the city has encountered has been poor soil underneath the property, which will cost more than $1 million than was planned. Mike Hall of Jones, Lange Lasalle, the city's project manager said the City Center's budget has to be adjusted to make the numbers meet. The project is still expected to remain within the $29 million approved by voters in a bond referendum. The design development approved includes the location …

Westside Parkway Opens to Traffic

The final section of Westside Parkway from Old Milton to Webb Bridge had its ceremonial parade of cars.

Alpharetta and North Fulton Community Improvement District officials turned Westside Parkway into a parking lot this afternoon, but it was only a prelude to the road's long-awaited opening an hour or so later. "This is the road that wouldn't be built but got built anyway," said Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle. Belle Isle said in 2009 when the ribbon was cut for the southern section of Westside, connecting with Mansell Road, the thought was that in just a few months they'd all be back together to open this section. "We had a foreclosure here, we had a bankruptcy here. We had a dispute among the property owners," the mayor said. Fast Facts About Westside Parkway Moses Brown, vice chairman of the North Fulton CID said the group's goal is to…
