Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Day Picnic On Sunday

The Johns Creek Veterans Association is inviting the public to its free picnic on Sunday at Newtown Park.

Johns Creek residents can celebrate Memorial Day a little early on Sunday in the company of those who've served their country. 

The Johns Creek Veterans Association on May 18 will host a Memorial Day Picnic on the newly installed entrance plaza of the Veterans Memorial Walk at Newtown Park.

The picnic, which is free and open to the public, kicks off at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

The picnic features traditional American fare - grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, chips, and other delectables.

Visitors can talk with veterans, and order pavers engraved with the name, rank, branch of service and conflict or years served for anyone who served in the military.

July 4 is the deadline for ordering pavers to be installed by the official opening of the Memorial Walk on Veterans Day weekend in November. 

The Johns Creek Veterans Association is a non-profit organization that encourages patriotism in Johns Creek and provides social activities tailored to veterans. 

Its major projects are recording oral histories and construction of the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk, slated to be a contemplative tribute to military men and women located next to Park Place at 3125 Old Alabama Road.
