Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is trying to help two very friendly and personable cats who urgently need good homes.
The request for assistance came from one of the rescue group's volunteers who is vacationing on Daufuskie Island in South Carolina. There are a number of managed feral cat colonies on the island, and their residents include Banshee and Oreo, two very friendly and domesticated cats who were most likely abandoned when their owners left the island. These guys are the favorite of the island's volunteer colony feeders, as they are super affectionate and run up for petting and attention whenever someone approaches them.
Banshee and Oreo probably could have gone on indefinitely in this situation, but recently two free-roaming dogs viciously attacked and killed the other two cats in their colony. To the great relief of the volunteers, Banshee and Oreo survived the attack, and showed up after several days of hiding. However, the volunteers are extremely concerned that the next time the dogs return, Banshee and Oreo will not be so lucky.
Because Angels Among Us considers Banshee and Oreo to be at extremely high risk, they have accepted them into their adoption program while they remain in their current situation. The on-site volunteer says that basic vet work has been done (e.g., neutering, testing for leukemia and other diseases), but she will get the cats up-to-date on shots and microchipped as soon as suitable homes have been identified, and will transport the cats back to the Atlanta area for a "meet-and-greet" with an approved adopter or adopters.
Banshee is an 8-year-old long-haired black-and-white cat. This handsome fellow is blind in one eye, but otherwise is in excellent health. He is an extraordinarily friendly cat and very, very personable. His coat will require regular brushing.
Oreo is a 3-year-old short-haired black-and-white Tuxedo. What a sweetie-pie this guy is! He loves getting into the feeder's golf cart and sometimes seems more interested in attention than he is in being fed.
Both Banshee and Oreo were temporarily in a local home while their colony location was under construction. They did very well in the home, and were excellent about using the litter box.
Although these cats get along very well with each other, they can also be adopted out individually.
