Desperate Family Needs New Home for Pet Cats

Son severely allergic to his beloved kitties.

Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is hoping Patch readers will help get the word out about Sally and Felix, two incredibly sweet cats who were adopted by a loving family when they were kittens. Now 4 years old, these children-friendly cats are now in need of another great home because of a severe allergy problem with one of the family’s children. Please note that these cats are up to date on all vet work, and both are good about using the litter box.  We would prefer that this brother and sister are kept together, but their current owners will adopt them out separately if that is not possible. They MUST be indoor-only cats, and absolutely cannot be declawed.

We can’t improve on the owner’s description, so here it is:

Some Sad News

In late December 2011 my 9-year-old son began to get ill. He has stayed ill for more than three months, missing several months of school and going to doctor after doctor to have tests run. During these months he sought comfort in his beloved cat Sally. However, today we found out that she and Felix are a large part of what is making Jackson so sick. He has developed a significant allergy to cats. Tonight we were told that one of his doctors has discovered the cats are causing some or many of his symptoms, and that we needed to find them new homes.

The poor little guy sobbed and sobbed. I would have sobbed too if I hadn’t been trying to hold it together and feeling such relief that I can begin to get my child well now. I told my son that we would find the perfect home(s) for Sally and Felix.

Please help me keep this promise!! These are fantastically sweet little cats, and really deserve an extra-special home or homes.

Our Kitties

Sally and Felix are almost 4 years old. They are indoor cats with their claws. We adopted them through a local rescue organization. They are healthy and are great with children who are gentle with cats.

Sally

Sally is a petite tabby cat. She is not a big eater, although she has a quirky love for bread and will eat through the plastic bag to get to it! She loves to sleep with my son (as you can see from the photos) and will let my 2-year-old son pick her up and carry her around the house.  She likes to be held or cuddled with. She is very playful, and especially loves to play with plastic toy tops or little balls.

Many times Sally gets her favorite little toys trapped under the sofa. When my son does his homework, she keeps him laughing by chasing his pencil eraser. She would do well with a family with children and we think would be ok with a well-behaved dog. One way or another, she will want to sleep at the foot of your bed or sometimes even share your pillow!

Felix

Felix, a black and white “tuxedo,” is a little bigger than Sally. Just like a little dog, he always greets everyone who comes into our house and then gives sandpaper kisses.  He loves to be petted, but doesn’t care much for being carried or held. (Angels note: This is typical of many cats who feel off-balance when held.) However, he does very much like to sit on your lap and hang out there! He loves to chase strings and has a huge affection for race tracks. (My sons have little race tracks for match box cars and Felix LOVES it when the cars go around!) He often plays hide-and-seek and uses hiding places like laundry baskets or under the bed covers. He is more of an eater than Sally and he LOVES to drink from a stream of water from the faucet in the sink.  He will let you know he wants to do this by jumping up to the sink and either lying in the sink or meowing and looking at you. Unlike Sally, Felix does not do well around dogs.
