A Georgia mother wants pit bulls banned.

Fulton County, Ga. — A woman whose son was mauled to death by a pit bull terrier wants Georgia lawmakers to ban the breed from the state.

WSB-TV reports Angela Rutledge began her campaign to ban pit bulls after her 2-year-old son was mauled to death by her family's dog in April 2012. The Fulton County woman headed Tuesday to the steps of the state capitol in Atlanta.

Rutledge says she has concluded pit bulls are "an aggressive breed" that can pose a danger even to their owners.

She was being joined at the statehouse rally by Jeff Borchardt of Wisconsin, who founded the group Daxton's Friends for Canine Education and Awareness after his 14-month-old son was killed by pit bulls, WSB-TV reported.

And i would be willing to let my kids pet or go near any pitbull, unless owner states not too, then i would respect the owner and tell my kids no which is another big prevention in bites or attacks too.

I found the article on wsb-2 news for atlanta, she states if the ban does not occur tighter restriction should be on the breed. Yeah tighter restrictions so dummies like herself don't own one, or any dog if she brings another human baby into the family

I've posted before and I did own a pit bull. People don't realize that it's the way you train this type of dog. German Shephards, Dobies, Rotties, There are dogs that you MUST read up on. I brought mine up with a kitten and kids. I had no problem with him at all. But, when we walked outside late at night, I had two words.."watch em" and that's exactly what he did.Other than that he was a good dog. Don't judge the breed. Judge the owner.

Raising has nothing to do with it, as we can see from all the deaths from pit bulls that were family pets. Pit bulls were breed to kill, there is nothing that will change that, they are born that way, just like you can't force a gay person to be straight, it is genetic. If you want a pit bull you should be prepared to treat it like an animal that will kill you and your family if given a chance. That means you don't play with it in your house, you don't sleep with it at night and you don't let your kids jump on it. Like having a lion or bear or any other animal that can easily kill you, it should be caged the majority of the time, closely supervised when outside the cage, muzzled when in public, always on a leash and there should be permission from the state to own one. And if the animal does hurt someone the owner should be 100% responsible as if they did the attacking themselves. The UK has BSL that does that and that is why the UK has had only 17 deaths in 9 years from pit bull-type dogs: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/pit-bulltype-dog-that-killed-sleeping-baby-was-a-banned-breed-9123097.html

Yes raising and training has everything to do with it. If you cannot train the dog properly there are obedience schools that work great. Same way you have to train a dog to be a guard dog, same way you train a dog to be a service dog. The dogs temperment very well everything to do with training and raising. If these dogs were so called viscous, they wouldnt have to be trained to be guard dogs. Heck people own alligators and snakes as pets and they never bite. If you can train reptiles you most certainly can train a dog.

A dog is like a child. They can be the most loving thing if brought up properly but can be a little ahole if not. Now cats, they pretty much have their own opinion. They will bite if you tick them off, but usually wont do too much of a wound

Interesting thoughts Tamarya but just wanted to make sure you realize you can never, ever, ever train a snake or an alligator not to bite you.

bslworks. It must be your mouth talking because your butt would have more sense. You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Just another person who wants to jump on the band wagon, any bad wagon.

Mitchos Doane March 01, 2014 at 07:45 PM
What is this guy saying. About the Uk 17 deaths in 9 years from pit bulls yea you are right. But go and read a bit more and you will find that the have also had close to 200 death from other breeds. And they say bsl is not working as they thought so the are banning more breed

Like a gun permit, maybe all dog owners should take a dog owner course, and written exam, prior to owning.
John Santaella March 02, 2014 at 12:59 AM
I've no dog in this fight but maybe there should be licenses for parenting as well.
Kingpin March 02, 2014 at 01:12 AM
You got my vote on that one, John.
Igor March 02, 2014 at 07:38 AM
Kingpin, that's really not a bad idea.
tamarya March 02, 2014 at 08:55 AM
True tracy, alot of times for the pet alligators they are taped at the mouth. I know i worked with someone and her brother did animal rescue for basically your exotic pets and they pulled one because the people were raising it in an apartment in basically a chicken wire fence set up in the living room. But anyway it was removed and wound up becoming her brothers pet.
tamarya March 02, 2014 at 09:00 AM
And i do agree with you kingpin, any dog over a certain weight the owners should need to have the dog in training courses. And if children, disabled , or elderly are frequently around then it shoukd be required no matter the size. Too many people are getting dogs and not training them. Then when something goes wrong they are quick to grab the gun and kill it.
