Telework Week Starts Monday

Now that students and teachers are back in school, traffic in metro Atlanta is returning to peak levels. Instead of simply dreading the increased commute time, Gov. Deal and The Clean Air Campaign are calling on Georgia commuters and employers to do something about it during Georgia Telework Week, Aug. 19-23.

Telework is a low-cost strategy that benefits everyone involved. Commuters love it because it saves them time and money, employers love it because it increases employee productivity and satisfaction, and regional leaders love it because it reduces traffic and improves air quality. Georgia is already a national leader in telework. In metro Atlanta, for instance, 600,000 people, or one quarter of all commuters, telework at least occasionally, making it the most popular commute alternative. But there is plenty of opportunity for growth, with some 242,000 commuters in the region indicating they do not telework but are interested in starting.

Employers are invited to pledge their support or attend one of the two Telework Summit events on Aug. 20 and 22 for insights on how to improve their telework efforts from local leaders in both the private and public sectors. Commuters can also pledge their support and find out more information on the Georgia Commute Options website.
