Whalen's Winning Goal Caps Off Chattahoochee Girls Lacrosse Comeback

Chattahoochee attacker Carolyn Whalen scores 4 goals, including game winner, to finish a 12-11 come-from-behind victory over Northview.

The Chattahoochee girls lacrosse team trailed for much of the game against Northview on Thursday, but the Lady Cougars scored four goals in the remaining 9:39 left in the game to beat the Lady Titans 12-11. 

The game winner came off the stick of attacker Carolyn Whalen.

The Lady Titans got on the scoreboard first when Becca Dow scored in the first few minutes, followed by another goal from Megan Maguire.

Chattahoochee's Katie Trainer scored the first of her two gaols on the evening to put the Lady Cougars on the board. The Cougars tied up the game when Aubrey Bausum scored to make it 2-2.    

Northview took control during the rest of the first half and were up 8-3 at one point. Chattahoochee closed the gap with two goals, but Northview went into halftime leading 8-5.

Northview struck first in the second half on a goal by Misty Panas, but the Lady Cougars struck right back when Bausum scored the second of her three goals to make the score 9-6 Northview with 23:32 left to play.   

The Lady Cougars made it 9-7 when Katie Trainer scored the second of her two goals. However, the Lady Titans extended their lead back to 10-7 on a goal by Maguire with 12:07 left. 

The Lady Cougars kept pace with Northview as Whalen scored to make it 10-8 Northview.  

The Lady Titans scored one more goal on a low shot from Sarah Biondich and led 11-8 with 9:39 left to play.     

However, the Lady Cougars finished out the match with four unanswered goals, including the game winner by Whalen with 2:32 left in the game. 

Northview tried to get an equalizer, but the Chattahoochee defense was solid.  The Lady Cougars got the ball back, passed it around and ran the clock out to complete the 12-11 comeback win.     

This was a big win for Chattahoochee. Northview came into this game with a record of 14-3, while the Lady Cougars came in at 6-5. Whalen led the Lady Cougars with four goals, but none more important than the game winner with 2:32 left.  

The Lady Cougars, now 7-5 and 5-1 in region play, will host Johns Creek next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.  Northview falls to 14-4 on the season and will take on North Forsyth in Cumming on Friday before closing out the regular season at Peachtree Ridge on Saturday.
