Top College Tennis Players in Qualifying Rounds

Georgia Tech, UGA Players granted wild cards into qualifying draw at the Atlanta Tennis Championships this weekend.

Adding to the excitement of the weeklong Atlanta Tennis Championships held this week at Racquet Club of the South in Peachtree Corners, the ATP World Tour extended wild cards to top college tennis players from Georgia Tech and University of Georgia.

In the weekend competition leading up to Monday's start of the ATP World Tour event, top collegient players Guillermo Gomez and Kevin King from Georgia Tech and UGA's Wil Spencer and Drake Bernstein were among those to compete in singles and doubles qualifying matches for the weeklong competition.

The weekend matches include 19 players competing for four spots to advance to the main draw.

On Monday, a number of the world's top players are part of the lineup for a week of matches with top tennis stars including former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt, Former No. 4 James Blake who has won 10 ATP Wrold tour titles.

"We are thrilled to add former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt and American standout James Blake to our strong field," said ATC Tournament Director Bob Bryant.

Rounds begin Monday for singles and doubles matches, with quarterfinal rounds for doubles on Thursday and singles quarterfinals Friday.

Semifinal single and doubles are set for Saturday, and Sunday the double finals are set for 11:30 a.m. and singles final at 3 p.m.
