Titans Take the Sting Out of the Hornets

The Northview boys soccer team dominated Roswell on their way to a 3-0 win.

The Northview High School boys soccer team put on a dominating performance against Roswell Monday afternoon and defeated the Hornets 3-0. 

The game was supposed to have been played Friday, but was postponed due to bad weather.     

The Titans scored all three of their goals in the first half.  The first came off the foot of defender Kyle Rice with 28:33 left in the first half. Rice took the rebound off a Northview corner kick and put the ball in the upper part of the net to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

The Titans' second goal came off the foot of midfielder Manny Salazar.  The ball was sent into the Hornets' end.  A Roswell defender chased it down to clear it the other way, but misplayed the ball and Salazar was there to put it in the back of the net. 

The Titans were up 2-0 with 25:13 left in the first half.  Northview's third and final goal came with 8:22 left in the first half when forward Jeff Degen dribbled the ball along the baseline, then took a shot which went into the far corner of the net.  By halftime, the Titans had a commanding 3-0 lead.

Roswell tried to create chances to score, but the Northview defense was well organized and didn't give up a goal. The Titans went on to win the match 3-0.    

"This win puts us in a playoff spot.  The boys came determined after being out here on Friday. I think we played well. We played good defense. We took some opportunities and we scored," Northview assistant coach Mike Mora said.    

With the win, the Titans have clinched a playoff spot with a record of 4-2 in Region 6AAAAA and an overall record of 8-7-1. Roswell drops to 3-8 on the season and 0-5 in Region 6 AAAAA.  The Hornets are out of playoff contention.    

Northview will wrap up its regular season Tuesday when the Titans head to Etowah for an 8 p.m. match.  Roswell wraps up its season when the Hornets host North Forsyth on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
