Pisgah Tennis Prepares for Region Tournament

Girls head into tournament as No. 1 team in Class A.

The Mount Pisgah Christian School tennis teams are preparing for next week’s Region 5-A tournament, which will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The girls will head into the tournament as the No. 1 ranked team in Class A and the sub-region champion after defeating Wesleyan 4-1 last week. The Lady Patriots have been dominating so far finishing the regular season 11-0. They are also 54-1 in individual matches and have won 95 percent of their sets.

The No. 4 ranked boys finished their season 9-2 and the second seed in the sub-region after losing a tough match to No. 3 Wesleyan, 3-2. While not as dominate as the girls, the boys still put up some impressive numbers going 41-14 in individual matches and winning 71 percent of their sets.

The boys will face Atlanta International in the first round of the Region tournament. The tournament should be highly competitive with three of the top four ranked programs in the state competing. In addition to No. 4 Pisgah and No. 3 Wesleyan, Pace is ranked No. 2 in the state.

The girls will take on either Galloway or St. Francis in their first-round match. The girl’s tournament will feature four ranked teams – Pisgah (No. 1), Pace (No. 5), Wesleyan (No. 7) and Providence (No. 9).

"As we get ready for the Region 5 tournament, we realize that this is the strongest region in the state for both boys and girls," said Ken Bomar, head coach. "Our girls go into the tournament as a No. 1 seed and ranked No. 1 in the state, and that means that everyone we play will be looking to knock off the favorite. Our boys are a No. 2 seed but must get past several highly ranked teams in order to advance to the state tournament.”

The tournament will begin on Tuesday, April 12, at Blackburn Tennis Center. The finals and the consolation match will both be held on Wednesday, April 13, at the home courts of the higher seeded team.
