No. 2 Pisgah Softball Heads to Postseason

The No. 2 ranked softball team completed the regular season on Monday with an 8-0 win over Galloway. The Lady Patriots finished the regular season 16-3 overall and 7-0 in Region 5-A play. This is the second consecutive year that Pisgah has gone undefeated in region regular season play.

“I feel very confident about our team heading into playoffs. I feel as if the girls are focused and have a clear mission that they are looking to accomplish,” said head coach Haley Brooks. “Every single player has extended their level of play this year in some way, which makes us a better team as a whole…and the chemistry that we have on the field is a coach’s dream!”

Pisgah opens postseason play on Friday at Pace Academy in the region tournament. They will face the winner of the Pace/Providence game.

Offensively, Morgan Walters is leading the team in most hitting categories. The sophomore is leading the team in batting average (.604), home runs (4), RBIs (25), slugging percentage (1.019) and on base percentage (.667).

The Patriots have two other players hitting over .500. Junior Nicole Peters is hitting .513 with 25 runs scored and junior Madison Wickline is hitting .500 with a team high 28 runs scored. 

Junior catcher Madison Claytor isn’t too far behind with her .456 batting average and 17 RBIs. Brooks added that Claytor’s influence behind the plate has been a big factor in the team’s success.

On the mound sophomore pitchers Courtney Condon and Jenn Sapp have both been dominating. Sapp is 8-1 with a 1.73 ERA. She has 41 strikeouts in 57 innings on the mound and opponents are hitting .155 off of her. Condon is 7-2 with a 2.17 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 45 innings. Opposing batters are only faring slightly better against Condon as she has a .199 opponents’ batting average.

“Our defensive is a collective effort, and the girls have proven to be very versatile as we have shifted the looks of our defense throughout the year without much change in production. That is always encouraging to have a team that will do whatever it takes,” Brooks added.
