Lady Patriots Win State Soccer Opener

Mount Pisgah to face Holy Innocents on Tuesday.

The Mount Pisgah Christian School girls soccer team won its opening game in the state playoffs Thursday, 3-0 over Treutlen High School. The freshman trio of Erin Lutz, Sydney Mason and Allie McHugh all scored for the Patriots.

“It is tremendously exciting to have advanced into the Sweet 16 round,” said head coach Andy Trevers. “And winning the first-ever playoff game for soccer at Pisgah - how do you describe that, except to say ‘thank you Jesus’. I am so proud of this group of young players; they are bouncing off the walls with excitement.”

Pisgah will continue in the playoffs on Tuesday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m., when the teams travel to Holy Innocents. The Patriots and the Golden Bears faced off early in the season, with Holy Innocents winning 2-0.

“Holy Innocents will be a very tough opponent as they are the No. 1 seed from their region. In our early season clash in February they came out the victors 2-0; however, a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and I believe it will be a very closely contested match. Both teams are packed with great talent,” said Trevers.
