High School Football Predictions

The 'Hooch regroups; Johns Creek keeps rolling.

I was humbled a bit last week in my predictions of high-school football games played in Patch coverage areas from Stone Mountain to Cumming.

After a can-you-believe-it 21-3 record the first week, I cooled off to a 16-6 mark last week (38-9 overall). I only missed badly on one pick. Really.

So, let's lace 'em up for another week. Are you ready?

Cass at Johns Creek: Feeling good about your football is a great thing, no matter what part of the season it is. These Johns Creek Gladiators are bringing good tidings to their fans with a 2-0 start after back-to-back dominating performances. Last week’s 34-0 win at Sequoyah — at Sequoyah — was impressive. The Glads gained 378 yards and held Sequoyah to 77. Winless Cass comes calling this week after a 38-14 loss to Rome (Johns Creek beat Rome 38-17 two weeks ago, by the way). Anybody thinking Cass' 28-15 win over Johns Creek will make this is a trap game would be sadly mistaken. Johns Creek 34, Cass 14.

Chattahoochee at Forsyth Central: The defending state-champion Chattahoochee Cougars look to re-group after last week’s 24-7 loss to Lambert. The Region 7-AAAA standings may forgive one league loss early in the season, but not two. Forsyth Central (0-1), off last week, lost to South Forysth 24-6 two weeks ago. Chattahoochee 24, Forsyth Central 10.

Northview at South Cobb: The Titans are likely still smarting from last week’s 55-21 loss to Duluth. South Cobb (2-0) doesn’t look to be a remedy. South Cobb 28, Northview 17.

SW Atlanta Christian at Mt. Pisgah Christian: Mt. Pisgah, coming off a 48-13 loss to River Ridge, hosts Southwest Atlanta (0-1), a 30-0 loser the Athens Academy two weeks ago. The Patriots celebrate their home opener with a close win. Mt. Pisgah 17, SW Atlanta 14.
