Hady Scores Two Goals to Lead Chattahoochee Boys to Win Over Northview

Hughes scores two goals to lead Lady Titans over Chattahoochee.

Chattahoochee junior forward Kevin Hady scored two goals to help the Cougars to a 4-2 win over Northview Monday night. However, the Lady Cougars weren't as fortunate as Northview's Kelsey Hughes scored two goals to lead the Lady Titans to a 3-1 victory.

In the boys game, Northview opened the scoring five minutes into the match when midfielder Steve Marion crossed the ball in front of the Cougars' goal to teammate Erik Wein who tucked it into the net to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead. Chattahoochee got the equalizer with 25:10 left in the first half when Hady scored the first of his two goals, this one coming off a corner kick in which he sent a low shot into the right corner of the goal to tie the game 1-1.

In the 50th minute, the Cougars took the lead when senior Julian Droege centered the ball to fellow senior Seth Prieto who scored to give Chattahoochee a 2-1 lead.  However, the Titans would come back when midfielder Jake Procter scored a controversial goal off a header tying the score 2-2.

Chattahoochee Head Coach  Les Meenan was infuriated with the referee because, in his opinion, Procter was offside and the goal should have been disallowed.  Nevertheless, the goal stood and the game was tied at 2 with 16:19 left in the match.

However, the Cougars regained their form and the lead when senior Tucker Coons put the ball in the back of the net off of a corner kick to regain the lead 3-2 for the Cougars with 9:24 to play.  Then with 2:11 to play, Hady scored his second of two goals when he took a long ball from a teammate, fended off the defender, and beat Northview keeper Matt Petrillo to give the Cougars the insurance goal they needed.

"We played a very strong game. We gave up a couple of goals on the counter attack, but I knew it was only a matter of time until we would score more goals," Meenan said.  The Cougars will return to the pitch Wednesday night when they host North Gwinnett.

The Lady Cougars were not able to duplicate the boys' success as Chattahoochee fell to Northview 3-1. Northview senior Kelsey Hughes opened the scoring for the Lady Titans when she dribbled uncontested and shot the ball past the diving Chattahoochee keeper and into the back of the net, giving the Lady Titans a 1-0 with 29:14 left in the first half.

The Lady Titans added to their lead in the second half when Hughes beat the keeper near post to score her second goal of the match with 28:09 left to play in the game.

Northview struck again when sophomore Hannah Edwards got behind the defense off of a long throw in and scored to make it 3-0 Northview with 15:26 left to play.

The Lady Cougars got a goal with 14:34 left to play, but Northview came away with the victory 3-1.  The Lady Titans will travel to Marist to take on the Lady Eagles on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., while Chattahoochee will try to bounce back as they host North Gwinnett on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
