Former Hooch Lax Standout Now NCAA Head Coach

Johns Creek native Haley Marvine is one of the NCAA's youngest head coaches.

Former Chattahoochee High School All American and University of Cincinnati standout Haley Marvine is Transylvania University’s first women’s lacrosse coach, after being named to the position this month. The school is located in the heart of Lexington, Ky. At 22 years of age, Marvine is one of the youngest head coaches in the NCAA.

Marvine is a 2011 graduate of Cincinnati, where she was a four-year letter winner for the NCAA Division I Bearcats. She was a team captain and a Big East Conference Academic All-American.

A goal-keeper, Marvine is a native of Johns Creek and has extensive experience working lacrosse camps in the South and Midwest as well as at Duke and Georgia Tech.

“Haley impressed us with her background and coaching experience,” said Transy Athletics Director Jack Ebel. “Her father is a coach and she has spent a lot of time working various camps around the country. Haley brings a lot of confidence and energy to the position and she has a very strong work ethic. She’ll be a tremendous addition to our staff.”

The Pioneers announced the addition of women’s lacrosse to the intercollegiate program earlier this year. The team will operate on club status in 2012, and then become fully active with the 2013 season.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of getting the Transylvania women’s lacrosse program started,” said Marvine. “I think my knowledge of lacrosse in Cincinnati and throughout the South and Midwest will be a big asset for me and will help me bring some talented players to Transylvania. It’s an exciting time for lacrosse in this area. The sport just keeps growing in popularity.”

Marvine has coached for Natilax, the club lacrosse organization in Cincinnati for high school and middle school girls. Her other camp coaching experience has come with the Duke University Winter Camp, the Georgia Tech Summer Lacrosse Camp, and the Hotlanta Lacrosse Club. She has also coached for the Xteam ATL in Atlanta.
