Fayette County Ends Lady Cougars' Season at Final 4

Chattahoochee girls fall to Fayette County 52-39 in AAAA semifinals.

The Lady Cougars' season came to an end Thursday night at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth as the Fayette County Lady Tigers defeated Chattahoochee 52-39 to advance to the Class AAAA State Championship.

Fayette County senior center Elem Ibiam led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points, while Chattahoochee senior center Alexis Alexander led all scorers with 19 points.

Chattahoochee got off to a slow start and trailed early in the first quarter 7-2. However, Chattahoochee went on a 7-0 run thanks to baskets by Alexander and seniors Kayla Upchurch and Erika Ford.  By the end of the first quarter, the score was deadlocked at 14-14

There was very little scoring in the second quarter, as both teams struggled from the field. By halftime, the Lady Cougars went into the locker room with an 18-17 lead.

Fayette County made its move in the middle of the third quarter. Senior guard Brianna Banks scored seven points in the third, and by the start of the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers had a 34-27 lead on Chattahoochee.

However, the Lady Cougars struggled from the field in the fourth quarter, and Fayette County took advantage of it. The Lady Tigers outscored Chattahoochee 18-12 in the final quarter on their way to a 52-39 victory, and a berth in the Class AAAA State Championship.

Chattahoochee finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 28-4.  Fayette County (27-5) will take on Forest Park (26-5) Friday at 3 p.m. at the Gwinnett Arena for the Class AAAA State Championship.
