Cougars Use Second-Half Rally To Beat NW Whitfield

Chattahoochee's Marcus Sayles had two interceptions in the second half, and Tosin Aguebor made several plays on defense to lead the Cougars to a 28-13 come-from-behind victory over Northwest Whitfield on Homecoming Night for Chattahoochee.
"I'm just most proud of the way the kids came out and played in the second half. In the first half, give them credit, Northwest Whitfield took it to us, but there wasn't any panic. We came out, made some adjustments, and played like we're suppose to," Chattahoochee Head Coach Harry Crowder said.
Northwest Whitfield's first possession resulted in a touchdown. Senior running back Nathan Sistrunk gained 40 yards down to the Cougars 13-yard line, and a couple of plays later, Colter Creswell scored on a quarterback keeper to give the Bruins an early 7-0 lead.

Chattahoochee responded on their first possession with junior quarterback Travis Marshall completing a touchdown pass to senior receiver Will Johnson to tie the game, 7-7 with 5:21 left in the first quarter.
The Bruins made it 13-7 on Sistrunk's 3-yard run (the two-point conversion try failed).

Chattahoochee made it 14-13 after forcing a punt, which junior Justin Jackson returned 50 yards for a score.
From then on, it was all Chattahoochee. Jackson almost returned another punt for a TD, but was tackled at the 15. Sophomore C.J. Leggett scored on a run from the 11, giving Chattahoochee a 21-13 lead.
The Cougar defense held the Bruins on offense yet again, thanks in part to the play of Aguebor, a senior who was in on numerous tackles and stops, including a big hit on Bruins quarterback Creswell.
After a missed Chattahoochee field goal, the defense struck again. Sayles intercepted a pass to give the Cougars great field position at the Bruins 30. On second-and-7 from the NW Whitfield 27, Marshall ran a quarterback keeper down to the 11-yard line. A few plays later, sophomore tailback Chase Nelson scored from the 5, increasing the Cougars' lead to 28-13. The Bruins mounted a late drive, but Sayles intercepted a pass in the end zone.
"I feel like we ran the ball very well. We had a little trouble throwing, but we came back in the second half and won the game," Marshall said.
The Cougars, now 3-1 overall and in Region 7-AAAA play, will host Johns Creek next Friday night at 7:30 pm.
