Chattahoochee Soccer Sweeps South Forsyth

Chattahoochee girls and boys soccer teams gained victories over South Forsyth Tuesday night.

It was a good night for both the Chattahoochee girls and boys soccer teams as both obtained victories on the road at South Forsyth Tuesday night.

The Lady Cougars needed only a goal from junior Becca Caulder off an assist from senior Courtney Froast midway through the first half to earn a 1-0 win.  Both the Lady Cougars and Lady War Eagles had numerous chances throughout the game to score.

Early in the second half, Chattahoochee nearly added to its lead when  sophomore Mandy Janowitz dribbled toward the goal and struck a low shot past the South Forsyth keeper that hit the far post. Becca Caulder rebounded that shot to get her second goal of the game, but her shot was cleared off the line by a South Forsyth defender.

South Forsyth tried to even the score when forward Rachel Shaw took a shot that sailed over the crossbar. However, the Lady Cougars were able to hang on and win by the score of 1-0.

The boys game saw a total of six goals between the two teams, but the Cougars came out on top 4-2.

It didn't start well for the Cougars. Chattahoochee goalkeeper Austin Pack tried to clear the ball out of his own end, but instead kicked it off the leg of oncoming South Forsyth forward Kevin Dennis and into the net to give the War Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Chattahoochee struck back when senior Danny Stofko fielded a shot from  just outside the box past the keeper, tying the game 1-1 with 19:44 left in the first half.  The Cougars pulled ahead later in the half when South Forsyth was called for a foul in the box and the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick.

Senior Seth Prieto converted on the PK, giving Chattahoochee a 2-1 lead.  However, the War Eagles responded.  South Forsyth was awarded a free kick.  The ball was sent into the box, where it bounced off several players and came to the foot of senior Dylan Goudy. Goudy turned and shot it past keeper Austin Pack to tie the score 2-2 with 10:03 left in the first half.

Chattahoochee almost scored another goal when Chris Ryan drove into the box and took a shot on goal, but goalkeeper Kyler Kelsey had him played perfectly and made a great save.  Both teams went into halftime tied 2-2.

In the second half, the Cougars took control.  Kevin Hady sent a long ball into the box, where Seth Prieto was there to put the ball in the back of the net for his second goal, giving the Cougars a 3-2 lead with 24:17 left in the game.

The Cougars got an insurance goal later in the game when Hady took a shot that bounced off a South Forsyth defender and past the keeper to clinch the 4-2 win for the Cougars.

For much of the game, Chattahoochee controlled the run of play and had other chances to score more goals.  With the win, the Cougars remain undefeated at 9-0-1. The Lady Cougars, with their win, improve to 7-3.  Both teams host Cass Friday night.  The girls kick off at 5:55 p.m., while the boys follow at 8 p.m.
