Bennett and Keidel Lead Johns Creek Past Grayson

Conor Bennett scored four goals and Lee Keidel scored three goals to lead the Johns Creek boys lacrosse team to a 10-6 win over Grayson.

Johns Creek High junior midfielder Conor Bennett scored three goals in the first half and one in the second to lead the Johns Creek Gladiators to a 10-6 win over Grayson in boys high school lacrosse action on Senior Night at Johns Creek.      

"It was a great game. I had four goals. It was an entire team effort," Bennett said.  The Rams got on the scoreboard first when Zach Dirskey scored  36 seconds into the game, but the Gladiators struck back when Bennett scored the first of his four goals with 9:40 left in the first period to tie the game at 1-1.  

The Gladiators took the lead when sophomore attacker Tommy Welch, who got an assist on the Gladiators' first goal, scored with 8:06 left in the first period to take a 2-1 lead.

The Rams tied the score when sophomore Colin Marney scored with 3:21 left in the first.     

The Gladiators took a 4-2 on goals by sophomores Andrew Szambelan and Mark Keidel.  Then, Bennett scored the second of his four goals and the Gladiators led 5-2.  Bennett scored another goal in the first half and Johns Creek went into halftime with an 8-5 lead.

However, Lee Keidel, a senior midfielder and the older brother of Mark Keidel, took over in the second half, scoring three goals. Bennett also scored the last of his four goals and the Gladiators went on to win the game 10-6. 

Johns Creek, now 11-3 on the season,  will take the field Monday night at Lambert when they face the Longhorns for the region championship.  Grayson falls to 8-8 on the season and will host Collins Hill Monday at 5:30 p.m.
