Woodward North Brings History to Life

George Washington historian visits Johns Creek campus.

For the third consecutive year, Woodward Academy brought a historical reprisor to its Woodward North campus in Johns Creek.

On Sept. 13-14, James Manship, a George Washington living historian, visited classes and attended the school’s annual President’s Dinner. Manship visited with elementary students at Woodward North and the Primary School, sharing the military strategies he used when he led the American colonies into their battle for independence against Great Britain. Manship also visited Upper School students in U.S. history classes.

Manship has authored several books including, "Second to None: America’s Washington," and two plays about the life of George Washington. He graduated from Auburn University, after which he was commissioned in the Navy where he served for 14 years. Manship has been pictured in The New York Times and LIFE Magazine, as George Washington.
