School Employees Receive Bonus Payment

Just in time for the holidays, Fulton County School System employees will find a nice surprise in their December paycheck – a little extra money. 

At its Thursday meeting, the Fulton County School Board unanimously approved a plan to grant a one-time special payment to all current employees who have been employed since Oct. 1 and who work at least half-time. The payment is made possible due to a projection of available funds in the FY 2013 fund balance.

Most full-time employees will receive 3 percent of their base salary. Employees who work in a full-time position but make less than $16,667 annually will receive $500 while those working less than full-time will receive a pro-rated amount based on their work assignment. However, no eligible employee would receive less than $250.

“We’re pleased to be able to do this for our employees – and especially at this time of year. It makes the season just a little merrier,” said Superintendent Robert Avossa. “Our employees work hard every day, and we appreciate everything that that they do.”

School Board President Linda Schultz agreed. “The board is thrilled that we’re in a budget situation where this is possible,” she said. “This one-time payment is a tangible way we can say thank you.”

Last February, the school board approved a similar one-time payment based on flat-dollar amounts that granted $1,000 or $500 depending on the employee’s classification.
