River Trail 8th Graders Raise Big Bucks for Charity

What can a charitable organization do with $1052.72? Plenty – thanks to Ms. Kim and her 8th grade reading classes at , five lucky charities will receive money raised by her students while learning persuasion techniques.

To promote an authentic learning experience using persuasion, Ms. Kim’s students were asked to create a poster using persuasive language while representing a charity of their choice. Each student from every class presented his or her poster to the class demonstrating persuasive techniques and speaking skills.

After taking a vote, a charity was chosen to represent the entire class. The students then created brochures of that organization to convince their friends and families to donate.
