Prince of Peace Offering Half-Day K Program

Registration opens to public on Jan. 26.

Many families these days are facing a dilemma. It seems that higher expectations are reaching children at a younger age than ever before. What happened to the days of half-day kindergarten, which allowed plenty of time to play in the afternoon?

Some parents believe that their children can handle the academics of public school kindergarten but are not ready to handle the full-day schedule. Many families are considering keeping their children home for an extra year before starting in the public school system.

Preschool has the answer. It has been offering a state-accredited half-day K program for the past three years and is ready to grow the class size going into its fourth year. The school is offering registration for Fall 2012/13 to the public starting on Thursday, Jan. 26. Class size is limited to 15 students.

The K class is taught by a degreed, state-certified teacher and the curriculum follows the Georgia Performance Standards. Class time includes centers, large and small group experiences, free play and plenty of individual attention.

In addition to the usual kindergarten curriculum, the class participates in art, P.E., music, Spanish and faith lessons each week.

“The small class size makes it possible to do everything included in a full-day program plus extras like field trips and holiday celebrations,” says Katrina Sayers, Head Director since 2005.

Graduates of the Prince of Peace Kindergarten have gone on to excel in the public schools.  “My son was more than prepared for the first grade curriculum in public school after his wonderful experience in the Prince of Peace Kindergarten.  He went right into advanced language arts and math. The half-day and small class size was perfect for him, yet he got all of the academic time the public school offered. I could not have asked for a better teacher and learning environment,” says Susan Campbell, whose son was in the first graduating class.

The kindergarten class is part of a preschool that has been in business since 2002. The preschool offers half-day programs for children of all faiths ages 14 months to 6 years old and has a small, family friendly environment. The school welcomes and encourages parent involvement and has a full yearly schedule of traditions and events.
