Pisgah Makes Successful First Trip to GHSA Championships

Two Pisgah wrestlers place in Top 6 at GHSA Championships; team places 17th.

Making their first appearance at the GHSA Class A Wrestling Championships, Mount Pisgah Christian School wrestlers Mitchell Tanzy and James Laughlin both brought home medals, finishing 5th and 6th, respectively. Jack Kenyon also qualified for the event, but failed to place losing his first two matches in the 195 pound weight class.

As a team the Patriots tallied 16 points to put them in 17th place out of the 25 Class A teams who sent wrestlers to the event. This is only the second year of the wrestling program for Head Coach Josh Merry and the Patriots.

Tanzy took 5th place in the 113 pound weight class. He finished the tournament 2-2 with wins over Ben Morgan from Trion and Hunter Smith from Mt. Zion. The sophomore won both matches with pins.

Laughlin, wrestling in the 120 pound weight class, pinned Peyton Haynes from Landmark in 33 seconds in his second match of the tournament. The freshman lost to Logan Chastain from Holy Innocents’ in the 5th place match.
