Pisgah Football Defeats Mount Paran

Patriots remain in playoff hunt with win over Eagles.

Aaron Winchester accounted for three touchdowns as the Mount Pisgah varsity football team defeated Mount Paran 42-28 on Friday night. The sophomore quarterback was 13-for-20 for 161 yards and a 13 yard touchdown to Tommy Pease. He also had 45 yards on the ground, including touchdown runs of 10 and 29 yards. The win improved the Patriots to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in Region 6B-A play.

The Patriots took the opening kick and ate most of the first quarter clock ending the drive with Winchester’s scoring pass to Pease. Mount Paran scored twice in the second quarter, but Winchester’s 10 yard scoring run sent the Patriots into the locker room only trailing 14-13.

The teams traded scores in the third quarter, but the fourth quarter belonged to the Patriots. Austin Harper began the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run. Harper finished the game with 11 carries for 38 yards.

Holding onto a slim 28-21 win, Pisgah’s Foster Gailey recovered a Mount Paran fumble and ran it in for a touchdown. The Eagles punched in another score to cut into the lead, but Ryan Felice scored on a 39 yard run to seal the victory.

Oz Dixon led the rushing attack with 71 yards on 11 carries. Felice finished with 46 yards on four rushes and Rondy Brownlee added 22 yards.

Pease caught three passes for 44 yards. Mitchell Phillips (19 yards) and Felice (24 yards) each finished with three catches. Jacob Delk caught two passes for 22 yards, while Dixon (32 yards) and Harper (six yards) each caught one pass.

Defensively, Felice led the team with six tackles and a sack. Nicky Piccapietra added 5 ½ tackles.

The Patriots will play their final sub-region game on Friday at Fellowship.
