Pisgah Announces Student Athlete Signings

Pisgah’s Marco Signs with Oglethorpe

senior Joseph Marco has signed to continue his athletic career at Oglethorpe University. Marco plans to play both baseball and basketball for the Stormy Petrels.

On the diamond, the right-handed pitcher was 4-2 on the season with 37 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 42 innings on the mound. The Patriots also used Marco in the field at third base, where he posted a .314 batting average with 10 runs batted in.

Marco helped the basketball team finish 20-10, win its first Region 5-A championship and advance to the second round of the GHSA playoffs. Playing in all 30 games he averaged 7.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and just over one steal per game.

Marco was also recently presented with the Dooley Award. The award, named after legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley, is given by the Athletes for a Better World and the GHSA. It recognizes athletes who have shown distinguished individual character, outstanding teamwork and citizenship.

McHugh Signs with Sewanee 

Mount Pisgah Christian School soccer player Nicky McHugh has signed to continue his career at the University of the South (Sewanee).

“Nicky has been a joy to coach these last two years, his appetite to compete at the highest level is second to none, as an elected captain this year Nicky has been exemplary in his leadership,” said Head Coach Andy Trevers. “His courage and willingness to do what it takes for the best of his team reflects Joshua 1:9 ‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.’”

Piccapietra Signs with Reinhardt 

Pisgah senior Chris Piccapietra has signed with the Reinhardt University football program. Piccapietra will be among the first football players on campus as the Eagles prepare for their debut in the fall of 2013. 

Piccapietra was an Honorable Mention All-Region selection for the Patriots at linebacker. As a senior he tallied 27.5 tackles, including one sack.

Pisgah’s Reilly Signs with Bates 

The most decorated distance runner in the history of Mount Pisgah Christian School, Sam Reilly has signed to continue his career at Bates College. Reilly will run cross country, indoor track and outdoor track for the Bobcats.

In the fall Reilly finished third in the GHSA Class A cross country meet. His time 16:22 was a new school record and was one of 27 National Elite performances from all classifications on the day.

In track Reilly holds school records in the 5K, 3200 meters, 1600 meters, 800 meters and as a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay team. This springs 4x400 meter relay team finished seventh at the state meet with a time of 3:32.07.

Off the field, Reilly was the President of the Student Government, Salutatorian of the class of 2012 and a state finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.
