Pisgah Advances to 2nd Round Hoops Playoffs

Patriots will host Aquinas on Wednesday.

The boys basketball team defeated W.D. Mohammed 49-38 on Saturday night to advance to the second round of the GHSA playoffs. The Patriots (20-9) will host No. 10 Aquinas (22-6) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Against W.D. Mohammed, Pisgah started slow as they trailed 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. Senior Kyle Sloter took over in the second quarter, scoring 10 of his game high 16 points. The All-Region 5 selection went in the paint for his first two baskets before stepping outside to hit two three-pointers. The teams went into the locker room tied at 18.

The Patriots stayed hot from deep in the third quarter as senior Joseph Marco hit a three-pointer to start the quarter and freshman Ben Miller added two more as Pisgah opened a 31-26 lead.

But the Caliphs were not done, as they tied the score with 6:20 remaining in the game and even took a 38-37 lead with 2:38 left. 

With 2:14 left on the clock Sloter stepped to the free throw line and hit two free throws to put Pisgah back in the lead 39-38. The Patriots would not relinquish this lead as they would hit eight of their next ten free throws to seal the win.

In addition to Sloter’s 16 points sophomore John Towne finished with 13, Miller 6, Marco 5 and Aaron Winchester 4.

Pisgah, the top seed from Region 5, will host No. 10 Aquinas, the No. 2 seed from Region 7, on Wednesday night. Aquinas defeated Lakeview Academy 70-60 in their opening game.

The game will be played in the Drummond Center, which is located on Pisgah’s East Campus – 9875 Nesbit Ferry Road in Johns Creek.
