Patriot Cross Country Teams Ranked in Top 5

Both Pisgah cross country squads in top 5 of Milesplit rankings.

The Mount Pisgah cross country teams broke into the top five in the latest Milesplit rankings. The boys are ranked No. 4 with the girl’s No. 5. The boys trail only Athens Academy, Galloway and Darlington. The girls find themselves behind Landmark, First Presbyterian Day, Darlington and Athens Christian. 

“Hard work pays off and our cross country athletes are finally getting the recognition they deserve,” said Head Coach Susan Reilly.

In their last meet both teams had strong showings at the Wesleyan Invitational. The boys finished fourth out of 13 teams, while the girls finished sixth out of 12 teams.

Junior Shane Sullivan led the way for the boys finishing in eighth place overall with a time of 17:32. Senior Grant Hicks finished close behind in 17:45. Rounding out the top 5 were senior Chris Spriggs 18:18 (personal record), junior Bo Stuart (18:37) and freshman Kevin Ginty (19:20 -personal record). The Patriots finished ahead of the 2011 single A State champions and runners- up teams - Wesleyan (6th) and First Presbyterian Day (5th). Other personal records on the day came from freshman Conner Clark (20:43) and sophomore Nick Harof (24:00).

For the girls senior Katie Strawinski (20:52) and sophomore Mattie Millikan (21:07 – personal record) finished in the top ten overall in sixth and ninth place respectively. The rest of the top five included junior Katherine Wilkison (22:48), freshman Dani Dudas (23:53 – personal record) and freshman Elizabeth Dworkin (24:30). Sophomore Alex Brady also turned in a great performance with a personal record of 24:57.

Next up for Pisgah is the Darlington Cross Country Festival on Saturday, September 29. The varsity girls will run at 8:30; the varsity boys will run at 9:50; and the JV boys will run at 11:50.
