Northview Loses to Walton in Lacrosse Semifinals 7-6

Last second goal by the Raiders ends the Titans championship hopes.

This was a game that both teams deserved to win.  The Northview Titans battled the Walton Raiders in their GHSA AAAAA boys lacrosse semifinal game on Wednesday for 47 minutes, but saw their season end when Walton's Tyler Poole put a behind-the-back shot into the Titan goal with just 14.7 seconds remaining in regulation.

Northview opened the scoring in the first period, when Michael Trainer took the opening face-off, drove down field, and scored in less than six seconds.

By the end of the first quarter, Walton held a 2-1 advantage.  Both teams scored twice in the second period allowing the Raiders to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.

Northview came out in the third period and scored twice to retake the lead at 5-4 until Walton's Poole scored with 1.4 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game at 5-5.

Both teams scored early in the fourth period.  With very little time remaining in the game and the score tied at 6-6, it looked like overtime was likely.  That is, until Poole's shot broke the tie with 14.7 seconds on the clock.

A penalty after the goal gave Northview the ball at midfield, but the Titans were unable to put in an equalizer before the final buzzer ended the game and Northview's season.

Walton will play Harrison for the GHSA AAAAA boys lacrosse championship on Saturday.
