Nine Johns Creek Students Named Semifinalists in National Achievement Program

In its 50th year, the program is an academic competition for African-American high school students.

Nine students from Fulton County schools serving Johns Creek have been named semifinalists in the 50th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition for African-American high school students.

The following students who attend one of the four Johns Creek schools are National Achievement Semi-Finalists:

Evan S. Johnson

Chattahoochee High School
Korey M. Bryant
Lorin J. Crear
Nigel A. Foster-Jones
Samuel Orgias
Daryl Sullivan

Johns Creek High School
Mica M. Blankinship
Peyton B. Smith

Northview High School
India I. Cunningham

There were a total of 23 semifinalists among the 95,000 students in the Fulton County School system. The program is administered by National Merit Corp., an organization that recognizes and awards scholarships to academically gifted students.

The students were identified through exceptionally high scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which they took as juniors.

As semifinalists, the students now must fulfill several requirements in order to advance to the finalist round. They must have a record of high academic performance, be endorsed and recommended by their school principal and earn SAT scores that confirm their earlier qualifying test performance.

Approximately 1,300 finalists will be named in January, and of these, 800 overall winners will be chosen for $2,500 National Achievement scholarships from the organization. Approximately $2.5 million scholarship funds will be awarded nationwide.

The Fulton County School System is the fourth largest school system in Georgia. Approximately 95,000 students attend 100 schools in the cities of Alpharetta, Chattahoochee Hills, College Park, East Point, Fairburn, Hapeville, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park, Palmetto, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Union City. The district also serves students in unincorporated Fulton County.
