Johns Creek's Linda McCain Named Vice-President of School Board

The first official Board of Education meeting of 2013 resulted in a new look for the board table with new officers and three members beginning new four-year terms.

Outgoing president Linda Schultz, who represents District 1, was re-elected president of the Fulton County Board of Education for a two-year term. Linda McCain, who represents District 5 (Johns Creek), was elected to a one-year term as vice president.

President Schultz was first elected to the school board in 2005 and represents areas in Alpharetta, Milton and Roswell. During her time on the board, Schultz has pushed for the involvement of parents in local school governance as well as for the increased use of technology to meet learning needs. In addition, she has advocated against increasing school millage rates, resulting in Fulton County having the lowest rates in the metropolitan Atlanta area.

Schultz also has served on the board of directors of both the Fulton County Schools Employees’ Pension Fund and the Fulton Education Foundation, and is a graduate of Leadership North Fulton. She currently is a member of the National School Boards Association’s Federal Relations Network committee, a coalition of school board members who advocate for public education, and serves on the board of directors for Star House, an afterschool program for at-risk students.

Vice President McCain joined the school board in 2011 and represents the Johns Creek area. With over a decade of volunteer experience in the community, she has served Fulton County on local school advisory councils and PTAs in her children’s schools. 

During her time on the board, McCain has advocated for the efficient and conservative use of taxpayer dollars and for increased accountability to school system stakeholders. She is a member of the board of directors of both the Fulton County Schools Employees’ Pension Fund and the Fulton Education Foundation and also serves on the school board’s internal audit committee.

In addition to the officer elections, three members began new terms after being re-elected in November 2012. Linda Bryant, who represents District 4, begins her fifth term of office, while Linda Schultz, who represents District 1, begins her third term. Gail Dean, who represents District 3, begins her fourth term.
