Lambert Defeats Chattahoochee Boys to Win Region 7 AAAA Title

The Cougars soccer team fell 1-0 to Lambert Tuesday night. The Longhorns clinch the Region 7 AAAA championship.

The Chattahoochee boys soccer team was hoping for a different outcome from that of the Lady Cougars. However, it was not to be as the Longhorns defeated Chattahoochee 1-0, thus clinching the Region 7 AAAA championship just as the Lady Longhorns did.

"I'm proud of our guys. It was a total team effort. The support of our fans made the difference," Lambert head coach Chris Wilson said.

The first half went much like the whole game. Both teams fought extremely hard and both were solid on the defensive end. That led to a 0-0 result at halftime.

However, Lambert scored the only goal of the match early in the second half when senior forward Dale Ashford took a pass from Ian Smith and shot the ball into the upper part of the net, giving the Longhorns a 1-0 lead.

Chattahoochee tried to create some chances.  Senior forward Chris Ryan dribbled in towards the box, but was stopped by the Longhorns' defense.  With less than a minute to play in the game, the Cougars had their best chance to score all night when one of the forwards took the ball towards the end line and crossed it to a teammate, who shot the ball wide of the net. That would be the Cougars' last chance to score, and Lambert won the match 1-0, clinching the Region 7 AAAA championship.

"It was a hard fought game between two good teams.  I just wish we had been on the winning end," Chattahoochee head coach Les Meenan said.

With the loss, the Cougars suffered their first loss of the season and are 12-1-1 overall and 7-1 in Region 7 AAAA play.  They host Sequoyah Thursday afternoon at 5:55 p.m.

With the win, Lambert wins the Region 7 AAAA title with a record of 9-0 and an overall record of 12-1-1. They will embark on a tour of England along with the Lady Longhorns during Spring Break.  Their next game stateside will be at Woodland on April 13 at 7:45 p.m.
